If they get Archer without giving up Bregman or McCullers it's a win.

Not if the Rangers continue to suck. Lucroy guarantees nothing. Especially with the pitching after Hamels and Yu.

This. Reed, Martes, whoever else can go for Archer as far as I'm concerned.

"Continue to suck" by leading the division?

They're on a downward trajectory. We're on an upward trajectory.

@BrianMcTaggartHinch on trade deadline: "There's a lot of rumors and I think everyone of our guys following them... We'll all know soon enough."

I know I know, but I'm starved for info. Whether or not he's in the know, there has to be something happening.

Nats got Melancon for a bucket of balls and some potato chips. Well, it was actually for a reliever with a 4.53 era and a middling prospect. Still, weird deal from the Pirates perspective as they're only 3 games out of the wild card. Yes, Melancon will be a free agent but he has been one of the best closers over the last few years.

Would be nice if Luhnow could pull off a similar deal for an impact player.

@jcrasnick#Rangers are also out on Lucroy. Unless there's a mystery team, signs are pointing increasingly toward Cleveland.

Dallas/lance/Archer/Fister/Mchugh. That would be the best rotation in the AL. well we were already 2nd before yesterday's debacle. Now I'm all excited for the deadline.

I was just going to say it looks like he's going to the Indians. A ball catcher Mejia is the one being talked about on the Brewers' boards

@dschoenfieldMatt Kemp WAR past four seasons: -0.5, -0.9, -1.4, -1.2. There is no "hidden" value there. He's terrible with a bad contract.

As it should be. Really hoping Fiers pitches good tonight.....but that's been a crapshoot all year.

That either means.....he's starting for Fister, he's traded or he's hurt.

Gotta be a trade. Extremely unlikely he got hurt during warmups, and also highly unlikely he would have been called up to spot start for Fister ahead of Devenski, Feliz, and Feldman. Hope he is headed to Tampa as part of an Archer deal.

It doesn't make any sense for Luhnow and crew to have Musgrove make his ML debut against the Blue Jays.

why is that so crazy? I don't think they need to put him against a bad team. Blue Jays are ~6th in runs/OPS. Either way, I assume the timing means trade (or potential trade, which may or may not come to fruition)
