Do you think the Khan family was chosen in a random drawing? God Bless the soldier and his family tor that sacrifice but we need to recognize, too, that they are a family of legal immigrants and the Constitution that the father so lovingly cherishes informs a nation ruled by laws not monarchs.

The Democrats don't even seem to recognize the modifier "illegal" when it comes to immigration just as they don't seem to want to recognize the modifier "Islamic" in conjunction with terrorist.

Newt Gingrich made a great speech that was very accepting and inclusive of Muslim-Americans and legal Muslim immigration... and he was resoundingly applauded at the RNC.

Of course they were not selected at random. Any competent person running a convention would not randomly select a person to speak at a political convention. Hillary's team worked very diligently to find speakers that fit the story that they want to tell-- and this includes the Khan family, the Ortiz family (a girl and her undocumented parents), General John Allen and Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

As for the message from Newt (and Trump), maybe they need to make their points about inclusiveness much more clear. Right now, a lot of people don't seem to be getting this message, including the white nationalists who are loving him and his convention.

The same goes with Trump's policy positions on banning or "extreme vetting" Muslims or immigrants from "dangerous" countries. He's given a bunch of different versions of them in not very clear terms. When you do this, what happens is that your opponent will pick the plausible interpretation that is least favorable to you and blast it in public. Politics 101, or, as the protesters at DNC would chant, "this is what democracy looks like."

Trump explicitly stated that he wants to ban ALL immigration of Muslims... illegal AND legal.

You can come back at me stating that he went back on those statements but keep in mind that this man stated this asinine policy decision in grand spectacle:"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims..." followed by massive applause. I mean he asserted this policy decision in the freaking third person invoking his middle initial. The fact that that notion was so infused within him to express such an asinine policy with such confidence means that it is completely within him to at least attempt to make such a policy come into being if he ever is president.

My point is that the sentiments or desire to ban an entire group of potential immigrants based on religion is well within him which matters more to me than his backtracking due to pandering as we are in general election mode. His initial statement was sincere. His backtracking is political.

Agreed. I'm not a Trump fan. He is... reality check... an amateur politician and an egomaniac. Most often he talks before thinking when the cameras are running. It's a problem-- one that i'm surprised did not sink his candidacy, but that is a measure of how fed up people on the red side are while people on the blue side seem to just want more of the same.

Is our future that bright? I have four kids and now a grandchild. I fear for the trending I see. I was more enthused about Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz than these guys...

Trump put his foot in his mouth; what politician hasn't done that? I just read the GOP platform on immigration and I don't see much to object to. They do not support Amnesty as it would only encourage further trampling on the rule of law.

Dare i say, that part of illegal immigration is an unsolvable problem. I could live with a case by case dispensation of Amnesty but no blanket provision. I have friends who have been here for 20 years and overstayed their work visas. You wouldn't know they weren't born here unless the speak up!

I had forgotten that there was a Border Fence Law passed in 2006 which both Senators Obama and Clinton had supported. Then, when they were electioneering, this: "The actual text of the law -- enacted with Clinton's and Obama's votes -- is unambiguous."

Why does it matter what a politician says? Apparently you'll just make up for your own sake that they made a mistake and don't really mean it. Even though Trump himself claimed that he was expanding on it, later. Trump has never said it was a mistake, or that he didn't mean it. He's stuck by it, and claimed that he'll expand on it.

Either you hold him accountable or you don't.

    What trending do you see?

    Crime - lowest in decades

Illegal immigration - greatly reduced since previous administration

Unemployment - lowest in about 8 years.

I'm just curious what trends you see that are causing fear for you?

I suspect he's most fearful of the trend of 4 or 8 years of a republican not being in the White House...

What trending are you referring to? What fear do you have for your kids and grandchild? What policies would a President implement that would make an impact on these trends?

Also, what would Sanders and Cruz do for such trends? They are very different politicians from each other as far as I can see.

The people that see these trends...are they the ones that haven't done well financially for the past decade? So its easy to just blame the President, though overall he/she doesn't really have much power to effect you directly anyways.

The most influence a president has on our daily lives is their interactions with other nation-states and their command of our military. As the head of state, the president is the number one diplomat/representitive of the nation. This is exactly where I'm legitimately fearful of Trump. A man that can be irked by tweets is not a man that I believe is stable enough to have the nuclear codes. No matter how disingenuous you believe Hillary to be, she is a far more calming and reassuring presence as the commander and chief and head diplomat.

There are thousands of lovely Trump supporters out there that would have seen Captain Khan in his civilian attire and would question is loyalty to this country from the mere fact that his skin color resembles "MUSLIM!". I've experienced it personally. Maybe it doesn't offend you but when you LITERALLY shed blood for this country and go into a shooting range with your white buddy and the store owner questions your white buddy on whether I'm properly vetted is demeaning and embarrassing for me.

The thing you don't understand is the core message. This isn't about buttering up Islam. It's about APPLYING INDIVIDUAL MERIT in our judging of other humans. If you actually watched the father's speech he didn't say anything specific about Islam. Nothing about it being peaceful. All he mentioned was that his son was a true American AND a Muslim and for a certain segment of America's population... THEY NEED TO HEAR THAT MESSAGE. You are one of them

Of course you would assume that it's nothing more than 'buttering up Islam'. It just shows how inherently pathetic you are at the core.

The trend is ubiquitous information, delivered for the addictive visceral effect, to sell soap. Impassioned story lines deliver returns, reasoning has to be supported with public funds.

Even ****ing Shillary has the "I could have made far more bank in the private sector" line and instead worked in the public sector.

Stupid and low for Donald Trump to question why Mrs. Khan didn't speak at the DNC. She spoke during the interview last night (go to about the 3:00 mark) and it was heart-breaking.

Funny how your first response in the "Night of" thread upstairs was some conspiracy about it being a muslim sympathy cause.

Just be content with collecting your wellfare, riding your scooter around walmart while whispering about the blacks, and posting useless tweets from

    other twats.
