One of which is STL... who are currently 3rd in MLB in run-diff.

There's no doubt we're entering our toughest stretch of the season.

if only we had beaten teams like the cardinals, orioles and indians earlier. =/

i'm more concerned with the a's, devil rays and rangers. eventually it will even out. it's baseball.

Exactly. The same people who are crying about the schedule are the ones who were exclaiming how the season was over in April.

Everybody in the division essentially plays the same schedule. The Astros have faired well against many winning teams, including the Mariners whom they have a few more games with.

Thank God beating teams earlier in the season guarantees beating them later in the year.

Whose crying about the schedule? Seems like a discussion on level of difficulty added to not many off days. Certainly concerning at least given a similar stretch brought the Cubs back down to Earth. I'll be happy to come out of August in the same position and games back we are now because the September schedule is much more favorable and at some point we figure out the A's.

Figure out the A's? They have a winning record against them. I suppose they need to go 11-1 against all division foes to truly "figure them out"?

There's just way too much day-to-day bipolarism going on here... also a ton of trepidation that this team is really/truly the one that started in August, and not the one that has been playing solid baseball for 3 straight months now.

It is a long season... good news is that at the end of the year, you can't fake it... you are who you are.

Exactly. I wanted somebody else to mention it first.

Some posters have agendas and constantly invent conflict. They will exaggerate anything, then use it against others as arguments. Hence, the response to your post... "an 11-1 record is the only way an opponent can be considered figured out". Another typical Charmin response. It's a shame one could hit "send" with a clear conscience with that follishness.

Yeah, he had the entire spring training to earn closer... the exact position he was traded here to do. He messed it up. It's his own doing that led to his limited sample size. Then, during his reg season opportunities, he pitches poorly in one instance, then, completely f**** off the other. But hey, let's forget those games ever happened.

    2015:
    70IP / 87K / 11.2Kp9 / 2.13FIP / 1.80ERA

    2016 (last ~31 appearances):
    29 IP / 41K / 12.7Kp9 / 1.69FIP / 1.86ERA

While we're on judging people based solely on ST and early season stuff, how come the AL player of the week is still in the minors? After all, he earned the job in ST... right?

Again, its universally acknowledged he sucked to start the year... and he's now pitching better than he ever has (with every appearance being a high leverage situation).

Indeed it is... yet it keeps happening on your part.

I get there are some posters who really freak out game to game but I'm actually just trying to have a discussion on the upcoming schedule and tempering expectations somewhat that their output since May might not be sustainable going through their opponents in August. No, I wouldn't call going 7-6 against a team figuring them out but maybe I should preface that by saying winning a series in Oakland and getting to be a team that is over .500 on the road by year end.

Bipolarism is what actually personifies this Astros team because they are young and not prone to consistency. Heck, right before they went on their run in May, their last stretch of 162 games from May 2015 to May 2016 had been decidedly mediocre.

Stop trying to GARM up the discussion, it's baseball not the Rockets.

Sure, I'm all for schedule analysis... but baseball is still about the collective 162. Thus far, they've won series against Baltimore, Cleveland and St. Louis... 3 of the teams they have coming up on this difficult stretch. Chances are, things even out... but that wouldn't necessarily be a bad overall result. I'm actually concerned that there will be a September swoon, including against the Angels... because no team beats any team 11 in a row without some sort of course correction.

In the end, the main factor will be the H2H against the Rangers (with the aforementioned course-correction expected).

They've had 3 consecutive months of solid baseball... by far the most consistent 3 month stretch over the last 2 years. I'm definitely going to focus on that more than what this team did in May-September of 2015, a team that was vastly different in makeup.

If you really think I'm doing that, you're not paying attention... sorry for the mix-up.

I think they have a chance to win each one of those upcoming games. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Then, Charmin posts stats that have nothing to do with the conversation.

He/she also conveniently bypasses the fact I said, multiple times, Giles isn't hopeless. Dude needs meds.

So you're guaranteeing wins against the Rangers? Sweet!
