Also a fact that you didn't need to be super-wealthy to live in Palo Alto in the 80s. Middle-class, sure. But you make it sound like they were 1-percenters...

Too bad Nintendo doesn't make the game only licenses the characters

Well it's the characters that made Pokemon Go such a huge success. Take the same game and throw in generic characters and no one will be playing it.

Got to admit...I don't get this one. How does moving into Palo Alto when it was affordable akin to giving birth to jesus?

Why is that too bad? They get most of the value from it without the investment risk.

Fitbit should join up with Niantic. Pokemon Go is the type of app that fitbit needs to keep people using its fitness bands. If Niantic plays this right it could be a great platform for all kinds of things.

I think Nintendo owns a percentage of Niantic. Not sure how much though. They invested about $30m last October. The whole idea is to get people interested in Pokemon and building brand awareness. There's a new generation of kids interested in Pokemon and I think there is also plans for a theme park and a live action movie next year. I also like their strategy of putting out a free app where you can stream all of the Pokemon cartoons for free. One day when Nintendo succumbs as a video game company people are probably only going to know it as the Pokemon media company.

He should probably start emailing those executive recruiters now that he's a local candidate.

Don't know what their future holds but I think IP such as Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Metroid are hear to stay with Pokémon.

The Pokemon Company is just the marketing and licensing arm of Pokemon but Nintendo owns all trademarks to it. The other two companies that have stakes in The Pokemon Company are Game Freak and Creatures. I think Nintendo also has significant investment in Game Freak. So Nintendo pretty much owns Pokemon just not directly.

They aren't making the most money off this game though. At least for now. Their stock tumbled when investors realized that.
