All Trump had to do was shut up. Once he started talking about Russian hackers (joke or not) it mad him look like a dumb ass and worse for him, unpatriotic.

I got to say, democrats are great at pandering and avoiding real issues. People won't buy the same b.s anymore from DemocRats. Trump has this in a bag.

The bump from this DNC will be larger than Trump's bump. No doubt.

Some people like to use the word "pandering." However, it's "pandering" only when the other party appeals to people who are not within your gender/ethnic/religious group. In the end, that labeling is irrelevant, and neither are a bunch of other GOP complaints. POTUS, like every other speaker, was out there to sell a TV audience on voting for Hillary Clinton and he did a great job at it.

    See here, for example:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Text just now from a senior House Republican who gave me permission to tweet this: “We were supposed to make that sort of speech.&quot;</p>&mdash; Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) <a href="https://twitter.com/EWErickson/status/758514549339414528">July 28, 2016</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I think what worked about the speech is that POTUS really wasn't selling Hillary, or even selling the fear of Trump. Like many great advertisements, he was out there not selling a product, but rather selling a self-image to his audience in association with the product.

Sure, he talked about Hillary's virtues, but voting for Hillary is mostly a declaration of who the audience member is: a member of a diverse and optimistic United States of America, ready to face challenges together, as oppose to someone who is scared of the modern world and looking to Trump to save them.

I am sure the Trump supporters here would dispute it, but that's the argument that Obama made-- and did so effectively.

You just need to listen harder. Trump is all about the issues.

I tried to take notes, but my shorthand is weak:

"carry him out on the stretcher"
"I can shoot a guy in the middle of 5th Avenue"
"she had blood coming out of her wherever"

Yes, I already do live by these principles. But I thought Trump's impression of the r****d/whatever was not convincing. :(

Interesting indeed. I will agree that because the GOP is the party out of power, they can't be as optimistic about things, they went a little overboard with that.

Obama's speech quoted Republicans, and it's been shown how even when he was bashing the Democrats, Reagan was always optimistic about America, the greatness of our nation, and took it for granted that it was the greatest nation in the world, and that he would build on that vision.

Trump's convention left a huge hole in that area. He dwelled entirely and built his whole campaign on the idea that America sucks right now, and only he can change that. He abandoned the territory of "America is great, and if you really believe America is great, vote for me, and I'll help this nation capture the potential it has."

Obama's speech claimed that territory in an astounding way. He talked about American ideals, why they are part of this nation's tradition and why they are still part of what makes our nation great. He claimed the territory of Patriotism and love of this nation that was abandoned by Trump.

It wasn't an appeal to the left. It seemed like he was reaching the middle of the road voter/rational GOP voters, and disaffected Democratic voter.

Cliffs: Murrrrrrica + they took errr jerrrrrrbs - progress = GOP

Brilliant night tonight. Starting to feel bad for Trumpers, seeing how much they are out-classed. Take a quick look at your fb friends... people who are pro Trump vs everyone else - who is more intelligent? How many pro-Trump women are successful?

It's everyone against the crazies + uneducated + bigots. Not saying all Trumptards are crazy, uneducated, or bigots... but you're at least one of the 3.
