he's played 59 games in RF this season. don't necessarily have to use him at DH (only). move springer to cf, bregman lf, gurriel 3b. let's you get all of gomez, rasmus, marisnick out of the lineup. can dh on days that rasmus is forced into the lineup.
He's played in the field 10 times in his last 25 games. Yankees crew was talking about how much his knee(s?) have been bothering him lately.
More importantly, where would the Astros play after the fans burn down MMP if the Astros acquire Beltran? A lot of fans are still bitter.
I haven't heard the Astros being interested in Beltran and I suspect he may cost a prospect the Astros wouldn't want to part with. He would look very nicely in the line up between DH and outfield. I have again heard the Astros have had discussions about another Padre, Derek Norris. He hasn't had a very good year, but is capable of catching 75% of the time and would be under team control for a few more years. I don't know what the Padres want, but he has really struggled with the bat in San Diego. I don't know. Honestly haven't heard a whole lot.
Or at RF. Then we can move Springer to CF and trade Gomez to Milwaukee and a prospect or two for Will Smith.
He's having a great bounce back year after two down years, and he's signed through next year. Would be a nice pick up, I wonder what he would cost.
I'll take either Bruce or Beltran...that would help us tremendously. 1B - Valbuena 2B - Altuve SS - Correa 3B - Gurriel LF - Bregman CF - Rasmus RF - Springer C - Gattis/Castro DH - Beltran/Bruce That lineup is dirty!
I like Beltran and Bruce, but I doubt either are worth the haul it would take to land them. Beltran is 40, but hey, for a half a year rental, if the price is right, sure. Problem is, I think the Yanks asking price is going to be unreasonably high. I highly doubt we acquire Bruce. Jocketty has a bone to pick with Luhnow. The asking price he had on Chapman was purportedly ridiculous at the time, partially because of the disdain for Luhnow. Bruce is a good ballplayer, but he's not the player I'd empty the cupboard for, and I think that will (more or less) be the case. He's having a nice year, but is coming off back to back .230 and .212 campaigns.
Agreed, would be nice. No more DH by committee. Stick him in the 3 hole everyday, move up Tuve to 2cd.
I dont think the price for Beltran will be very high at all. Moran, JD Davis, players like that should get it done.
I'd give up either of those guys plus filler, easily. Yankees are playing well now and still have visions of a playoff push so I'm not sure they'll deal him at all. They could afford to deal Chapman (and for what they got it would've been stupid not to) because of the 2 guys in the pen behind him.
Yup, going into the series, I thought that if we swept them or at least won 2 of 3, they would have been ready to start shipping out players that wont help them beyond this season. Now...they probably abandon some thought of trading away players.
Not sure this series would have changed things. They've won 3 of 4 against Cle and Bal, 2 of 3 vs SF and lost 2 of 3 to Boston. Maybe we demoralize 'em tomorrow and change everything?
Matt Shoemaker is still at the top of my list, followed by Rich Hill (who we could have had for less than what we are paying Fister, not that I can complain about Fister's results). Beltran's bat would be great, but we really need a 1B more than anything. Sticking Beltran in LF would be possible, but I see him more as a strict DH.
I think losing Springer would send the entire clubhouse into a tailspin. He is the heart and soul of this team. Hell, it took us two months to figure out how to play without Conger in the dugout.
I would send McCullers out. I have doubts about his ability to stay healthy. Arm action is beyond violent. Springer is still somewhat young and has the ability to improve as an every day player.
Great ? tough to say. I consider both as cornerstone players. Both are an integral part of the clubhouse, both perform at a high level, both are inexpensive and under control for awhile. But I'd give the slight edge to McCullers, since he's younger, cheaper, under control for longer, has a higher ceiling, and is the more difficult asset to replace. Springer has the higher floor, but finding a star RF is easier than finding a ToR SP, plus Springer is about to get expensive since he reaches arbitration this offseason.
