    Can't hurt to try though

His high OBP would be perfect hitting 2nd here

    Gomez for a grape Snowcone

I'd settle for cherry. Both favorites /brianregan

Obviously any possible deal for him depends on how much salary they would eat

It's not so much the money as the years/age. I see him being an untradeable roster albatross, ala Pujols in the very near future.

The one difference is, I expect Votto to maintain a high OBP. Pujols' high OBP were driven by average and intentional walks.

Again, depending on how much of the contract you have to take on

If we were taking on a majority of the contract I agree

Any chance Matt Kemp is available?

I'd imagine so. He's having a really good year

I'd much rather swing a blockbuster this offseason for Freeman/Teheran. I empty the farm for that.

    Yeah, I'm dreamcasting.

Saw an absolutely insane stat earlier this season. Votto has 15 pop outs in his career. one of the craziest stats I've ever seen. Passan reported 14 in September of last year.

Yea I just don't see Atlanta moving those two guys the year they are going into their new stadium. Think they want to be trending upward not farther down

Our "hit rock bottom" strategy certainly worked, but I still don't think many teams will be willing to go there

Upton just went for what looks like a song and a prayer. He strikes out a lot but a league average bat in Petco for a guy who normally produces come contract time is still a good get for the Jays.

Gattis has a higher OBP than Kemp this year.

Conditions for Houston to trade for Kemp:

It also brings Myers, Norris, and/or Cashner and dramatically lowers the prospect cost.
Houston sends Gomez to San Diego as a positive meaningful part of the deal (of course they'd try to flip him, or it could be a 3 team deal).
    San Diego eats some salary.

Here's a blockbuster hypothetical that would never happen:

    Astros get:
    SP Andrew Cashner
    1B Will Myers
    C Derek Norris
    OF Matt Kemp
    PTBNL (SP Tyson Ross)

    Padres get:
    OF Carlos Gomez
    1B AJ Reed
    SP Francis Martes
    SP Chris Devenski
    SP Albert Abreu
    SP Mike Fiers
    OF Daz Cameron
    C Max Stassi

    25 Man roster would be:

    RF Springer
    LF Bregman
    2B Altuve
    SS Correa
    1B Myers
    3B Gurriel
    CF Rasmus
    DH Kemp
    C Norris
    Bench: Marwin, Valbuena, Gattis, Castro

Rotation: Keuchel, McHugh, Fister, McHugh, Cashner
Bullpen: Feliz, Feldman, Neshek, Sipp, Harris, Giles, Gregerson

Last season, he started with two months of an ERA of 3.00. Even with a rocky stretch of 4-5 starts, his ERA was still slightly below average for the NL by the trading deadline with the peripherals to back it up. This season, his ERA is about a run over average leading up to the trade deadline and his peripherals back it up that he's stunk.

In 2015, he didn't have two consecutive below average months (only 2 bad months in all). In 2016, he's not had an average or above average month. Just 4 straight bad months.

He's pitching worse more often. At best, you can say he's consistently having bad starts more often.

I would've liked him in our OF in place of doh-doh. Especially for the price they got him for. His high strikeouts doesn't scare Luhnow, considering he has been producing long balls and rbis. Hell of a steal for Toronto.

    Buy out Gomer, rent Beltran.

I assume that's been mentioned in here. Too lazy to scroll around.

Wouldn't get more interesting than that.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned (don't think it has), but I've been on this train of thought for a while. Offer up some combination of prospects centered around Moran, plug in Beltran at DH, send Gomez packing, and rack up wins.

I'd support a Beltran rental as well.

    Springer
    Bregman
    Altuve
    Correa
    Beltran
    Valbuena
    Gurriel
    Rasmus
    Castro/Gattis

Another guy that could be a good rental is Josh Reddick.
