A friend of mine just sent me a video of one of the shootings. Started in front of a McDonald's. Also some gruesome pictures.

If this keeps happening Europe will eventually do something about it. At that point I guess they will get what they want. ISIS is building a coalition against them that will encompass most of the globe.
Saying islam is awful is like saying.. All Police are awful because of a few idiots All Blacks are awful because of a a few idiots All Whites are awful because of a few idiots... Not right to blame all because of some Idiots... T_Man
Really? With the blood still flowing out of people expiring in a Munich mall, this is what you come up with? It's not even original in any way. It's as predictable as a 1970's piece of software. Would you like to compare the per capita statistics of mutilation and death by gun in the two countries, while you've brought up such a self-satisfied and irrelevant topic to a tragedy? Again, I'm typing this as someone who doesn't yet know if my good friends there are safe. I know they sometimes go to that mall. So let's review: you and your fellow paranoid small dicks have totally won the American gun debate. That is over and has been over for some time. Why kick dead Germans with your insipid, Death-Wish-fantasy American politics? Because you're an asshat, that's why. Nothing more, nothing less. Some small consolation that you too will definitely die, though hopefully not violently like these Germans did today.
What is it going to do? One can fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria, but fighting an ideology that is planted in the heads of hundreds of millions of people to varying degrees is much harder. Hard to look inside their head and see what is going on, right? Who is "moderate" and who is a walking sleeper cell? Connected tissue.
Oh, I see, NOW you think those kinds of comments are inappropriate. I'll remember that the next time I see very similar comments the next time there's a shooting in the US.
THIS!!!!! It's easy to take down an army... But this fight is much different and you have to fight it differently... T_Man
That's not actually correct, T_Man. Islam is an ideology that inspires people to do certain things. Being black or white is not an ideology. Serving in the police force is a job. Nobody is saying "all Muslims are awful", which would be a comparison that fits your other examples. But an ideology that has supremacist aspirations and whose founder was a violent warlord and that undisputedly, in one form or another, is currently inspiring many people around the world to murder people - saying that that ideology is awful on balance is certainly a position one can take. All that said, we don't know yet if that was an Islamist attack. In light of recent events, I don't think people should be blamed for considering that the most likely possibility, however.
Well you have to fight it in Iraq and Syria, but that's the easy part. It doesn't end with a victory over ISIS, you have to continue the fight and destroy the next ISIS that pops up. You can't let any of these groups gain the power ISIS has. It's why the US should have stayed in Iraq permanently in order to be a stabilizing force in the region. It's too late for that, but perhaps they can work something in Syria when people get serious about that and take ISIS out.
Actually the lack of being able to modernize Islam is a problem and the reason that many think it is awful. The entire ideology is contradictory. So, while it is not the whole problem to dismiss it as having no factor in the problem is silly. DD
If this is another ISIS inspired attack, one area the anti-ISIS coalition needs to reexamine is how to effectively cut off/counter their social media use, and propaganda overall. This feels like a slow rolling snowball. Each attack emboldens another. What is the tipping point? This certainly plays into the world view Trump has presented. With each attack, it becomes harder and harder to dismiss him.
Stay safe ATW! Meanwhile, I still need to find out if these are the Greeks or Armenians that caused this havoc.
Genuine question: what is it about this particular ideology that persuades so many to attack in its name? Could it be a close, literalist interpretation of its text and its beliefs regarding what is sacrosanct (the literal word of God being written by the perfect man)? Being a Muslim is a choice. Every other thing you listed (aside from being a cop, but that is an occupation and not a world view) isn't. So, what is it about those who choose to adhere to this faith and act in its name?
