I wonder how much the facilities that UT wants to build in Houston are coming into play. UH is currently blocking UT from what I heard.
Could also be careful word choice there. He supports considering UH for the conference, but not necessarily that he supports UH entering the conference. Idk.
I know UH isn't happy about it but haven't heard anything about them actively blocking it, nor do I think they'd have much standing to do so really. But I'm sure goodwill is certainly playing a part. I usually don't like reading too much into things but I kinda agree with AFS on the word choice. Whether UH gets in or not, UT doesn't really lose much by tweeting this.

What exactly did UT do wrong in buying the land? If there is a legal issue there, how does helping UH help with that?
IIRC the land was owned by someone closely affiliated with UT, and essentially UT paid over market value for the land, so there was a conflict of interest there. On top of that, UT using State monies to undercut and overlap with another public higher education system is way, way unconstitutional and also a real jerk thing to do.
Broke state protocol. The purchase was as wrong as wrong can be. State schools just can't spend certain funds however they like.
No way Coogs get in.... too big a recruiting hit for in-state schools. Not much media market is added either as HOU already has conference interest. I wouldn't really want UH in the Big 12 anyway.. too many conflicts of interest for my fandom. Get Coogs in a different power conference, soon.
I hear you guys but still don't see an explanation as to why? If there was some type of illegal spending or misapropriation of funds on UTs part, how does UH dropping their opposition help with this? Seems like these are 2 completely different issues with the former needing to be resolved way before the opposition even comes into play.

Good grief. So now UT is possibly going to allow UH in the Big12 IF UH stops protesting this dirty land deal. Also, UH won't get full payment from the Big12 for many years. And UT will probably bail out of the conference when the time is right. All of this smells to high heaven. UH fans won't care, because they get in a P5 conference. But, college football is just a dirty BUSINESS.
Take this with a grain of salt cause my memory on this is fuzzy. During the Board of Regents meeting back in the winter (the same meeting where they voted to raise Herman's salary) they discussed UT Houston and brought a UH law professor to talk to the board about their options. From what I remember, the law professor indicated a civil lawsuit would be involved. If that's the case, it's up to UH to actually file lawsuit to assert their rights. UH can agree not to sue.
I get the land issue but how is this a jerk thing? They are bringing more opportunities to young people in the city of Houston who want to stay home. How is the city hurt by that? UT-Austin has been at capacity for a while and they have to turn away a lot of good kids because they don't have the room for them especially with the top 10% rule. How are you making the lives of the people of Houston worse by allowing another higher learning institution to take up residence? I think the way UH gets the approval of the non-texas big12 schools is if they bringing in 4 new teams as to not increase the percentage of Texas schools which in the conference but I think 4 teams is the goal anyway. They want 14 teams so this is happening.
I hope it's happening. Like I've posted many times in this thread, I would LOVE to see Texas and OU play here in town in person every other year. I'll be there, and I'll be a huge Cooger fan when OU is in town.
