Who could we realistically trade for to turn us around?

"Realistically"? Great thread topic but I see a lot of Blakes,Westrooks, and Cousins' as answers. Not realistic given our bare asset-cupboard.

We need to find the next Kyle Lowry; maybe even a couple of them...which is also very hard, but is it unrealistic? Perhaps. Lowry is an extreme case, but we've seen it with Morey numerous times; he's good at identifying talent on the rise. Dragic was another great example. Hell, even Asik's game went to another level after Morey signed him; at least good enough to fool the Pels into paying him all that money.

Morey needs to get agressive and make a big move for a player on the come. Guys like Lowey and Dragic (before they blew up) are the guys Morey should be going after. These guys can put teams back in the conversation.

I saw Booker mentioned; doubt the Suns would trade him because it's obvious he's a future star. But a Dragic or Lowry were not thought to be future stars. We need some high upside under the radar type players. Bet on them now, and in a year or two they've changed your team.

I think that's our best chance.

I think it kind of depends on your definition of "turn around." By "turn around" I think you almost have to assume that the Rockets are in a bad place, and I honestly am not willing to make that assumption yet. They have a new coach and two new key long-term personnel members. I don't really think we really know what they have yet with this team, so I kind of feel like saying "turn around" is unfair.

Now if you're asking what I think they need to do to seriously be a contender again, I honestly don't know if that starts with making a trade right now at all. Yes, they COULD make a deal for a starting PG or get an upgrade at SF or C. But I honestly don't think there's a player the Rockets could realistically trade for right now without dealing Harden that would make them serious contenders in the West. Guys like Rubio, Knight, Bledsoe, Noel, Okafor, Draigic, etc. would all be nice pieces, but they likely don't make the Rockets a champion next year. And on the flip side, getting Westbrook, Cousins or Griffin right now is a total pipe dream. They just don't have the assets.

I don't necessarily think the path to a championship necessarily starts with making a trade right now. A trade to upgrade another starting position would be nice, but I think the real route to contending again starts with just playing better basketball next season with the core of guys that are in place and looking like a team that actually enjoys playing together again. Then with an improved franchise on and off the court in the public's eyes, Morey can strike next offseason for that secondary star player that makes this team a contender again.

To sum it up, is there a trade to be made out there right now that makes Houston a better basketball team? Yes. Is there a trade to be made that makes Houston a serious contender? Very doubtful.

    Not Griffin

Clippers won't trade with houston - 1. we don't have the assets, 2. we are in the western conference.

Realistic trade targets: Ricky Rubio, Rodney Stuckey, Dante Exum, Tony Snell, John Henson, Aaron Goodwin, Danillo Galinari, Wilson Chandler, Adrien Payne, Jeff Withey, Terry Rozier

Nothing spectacular, but when you don't have many assets you are willing to part with, options are bit limited.

I don't know about "turn around" but finding the next Lowery or Dragic, then how about:

    G Terry Rozier
    F Aaron Gordon
    C Jahlil Okafor

Instead of targeting Blake Griffin, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant in next off season, why not Giannis Antetokoumpo instead? Or Nerlens Noel. Target young guys on the rise instead of superstars who are already in their prime. Morey should use his ability to find "gems" in trades or 2nd round picks and apply it to FA as well.

Bledsoe seems like the most realistic "star" that's obtainable. With Booker developing well, they have a lot of solid guards.

    I like it. Henson!

And I'd be shocked if Pringles hadn't already confided in Morey about the special feeling he gets when he thinks about Galinari.

Realistic targets IMO would be Embiid, Lowry, Korver, Noel, Kanter, Rubio, Blesdoe, Gibson, Bosh, Swaggy P, maybe Paul George, Hibbert, Okafor, Sanders, and Martin off the top of my head. Of those players, I would only want Lowry, Korver, Blesdoe, and George. Martin would be nice too since we are eschewing defense this season.

The only guy who can put Harden in his place. DeMarcus Cousins, I don't even like the dude but I hate Harden jacking up shots when he has a off night.

Cousins would get in Hardens ear if he played like a scrub which Harden does from time to time.

I don't think Cousins and Harden would get alone, much less Cousins and MDA.

I still have high hopes for Beasley. I feel like if he plays to his full potential he could turn us around.

I like how the OP put "realistically" in the title and then suggest we have enough asset for acquire Blake Griffin.

Isn't that why Morey traded for KJ 15 months ago?
