The problem with your short sighted logic is there are many things we do that are not logically sound. I can go into an authoritarian mode and make an indefinite list of things that we should or shouldn't do. And we let people do it and often at the expense of other peoples lives.

LOL @ comparing mar1juana with poisons like meth and heroin. Maybe we should arm our soldiers with snub-nose .38's instead of military versions of the AR-15, amirite?

What hunting situation requires an AR15 and does that form of lazy hunting override the carnage inflicted on humans at the hands of a wannabe Rambo

Do we allow grenades to make fishing easier?

So we agree there's non logical reason for a citizen to own these guns. You just chose the ignore being inflicted on innocent people because people misuse other things.

Did I say that it was "required"? It's the weapon I choose to use. I have a standard .223 AR-15 for hogs and a .25-45 AR-15 for deer. I could certainly use my .30-06 just as easily, but that's not really relevant. Just because someone randomly decides there's not a "need" for something isn't a reason to ban it especially when the ban will do literally nothing positive.

Like I said before, we've had assault weapon bans and they did nothing whatsoever. In fact there's only 300 or so deaths by all rifles combined per year, it's hardly a huge problem and certainly not some unbelievable "carnage" like the emotional propaganda you bought into. The true menace is handguns, not "assault rifles", but it's a whole lot easier to scare people into thinking an "assault rifle" is a tank than it is to scare them into thinking a 9mm handgun is a tank.

    Hogs, coyotes, but especially hogs.

Do describe this laziness, please, I actually want to know what you think you know.

Well, you finally made a salient point here.

To answer your question, no, anyone that needs one of those weapons should be federally licensed, done, end of story. But do you know what an AR is? Do you know anything about semi-auto rifles? If you want to have this conversation you should probably do some research.

I know exactly what you said. They didn't ban ownership, they banned purchases which is not effective when there are tens of millions of them that remain in circulation. Banning the ownership of AR15's would be incredibly effective. In time they would completely disappear from American society and would cease to be used in these attacks.

If you actually know what I said then you'd know that I never suggested that they banned ownership.....and they wouldn't be able to ban ownership now so why even bring that up?

Also, it's incredibly naive to think that if they were banned outright that they'd just disappear.....it goes against EVERYTHING prohibition has taught us every single time it's been tried and it goes against everything we've learned from terrorist attacks in other countries that have outlawed them.

As it stands, "assault rifles" are rarely used and only account for a tiny fraction of people killed by firearms every year, but you are fixating on them because you are an ignorant and weak minded individual who is easily swayed by emotional propaganda.

You said banning ownership is ineffective, citing the assault weapons ban as banning ownership. You're wrong. Per your usual.

In time those weapons would disappear just like automatic weapons are rare and expensive now.

You can make liquor at your house dude. How many AR15's have you made at your house with your own parts? Riddle me that one Smith and Wesson.

You contradict yourself like a drunk. What's wrong with you?

So you are supporting gun confiscation?

Let's just be clear about this because when people suggest that those on the left are in favor of that people say it's paranoid.

Your rainbow and unicorn utopia pipe dream of a weapons free world after your banning law aside, what are you trying to fix with this ban?

No, I'm suggesting banning AR15 ownership or requiring licensing would be very effective over time in eliminating AR15 attacks. Banning sales is dumb and would never work so you pointing out that it didn't work is just irrelevant to the discussion of banning AR15 ownership.

So how are you going to get the 10-30 million of them already owned out of circulation if you don't confiscate them? So when I say are you suggesting confiscation, you should just say "yes" because that's clearly what you mean.

Also, they are already illegal in France, did that prevent them from being used in an attack earlier this year?

Sure why not? Ill agree to this when you agree to ban alcohol, tobacco, and bad foods.

Can we compare alcohol, tobacco, and bad food murders to semi-automatic rifle murders? Post some stats. Any kindergarten classes murdered by twinkies this year?

You really can't compare them, far more Americans are killed by alcohol, tobacco, and bad food every year than by all firearm related deaths combined. Those are WAY more lethal and they aren't constitutionally protected like firearms.
