I know he needs regular work...I know he needs regular work...I know he needs regular work But i'm not down with Sipp being the one starting to warm up right here
Plenty of possible theories... dead arm, more knowledge about his "stuff", he's just slumping. That was a solid inning, all things considered.
I think it feels like it because he is...not sure if that's an issue. Who else is in contention? Reed maybe?
Big run there. Could have been two run homer. Was dumb to send the slow Castro with high strikeout Springer at the plate.
I'm thinking Reed might actually be faster, no wear and tear on his legs/knees and youth. Then again his size & I haven't really seen Reed on the base paths.
Would it have been dumb to send Castro if Springer hit a routine double play ball, or if Castro gets to 3rd with nobody out on a single he otherwise wouldn't have? It only looks bad when it doesn't work.
I mean, he created an out without gaining anything positive. How can you turn that into "shouldn't count against his average"? If they have a shift on and you hit a screamer that would've been a hit "normally", you still get an out against your average. It's the situation the batter came up in, and he had to hit knowing that was where the fielders were positioned. Another situation--you have a man on 1st. Because of that, the 1B is playing on the bag. You hit a shot down the line at 1B. Normally that would be a double. Instead, it's a GIDP because you had a runner on base. No one is going to say "well it's just because there was a runner, but if there wasn't a runner, that's a hit every time...so just give it to him".
With Springer's speed the strike out throw out double play is more likely imo. Fortunate Marwin came through with big HR though.
Better chance than not sending him. Springer has to make contact right there. Difference between .270 and .290?
