You can see that in 538's tracking. His chance of winning went up from 22% to 35% this week because of those recent polls. Given the news cycle, it's not surprising.
Must've inspired him to pen something similar in the Art of the Deal- "If the fish is spoiled, brand it, sell it, and call it a day's hard work"
Something I guess that is trivial but we have had a decent string of relatively fit presidents. Obama, Bush Jr, Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, Carter. Trump would break the cycle so I guess that's one trivial reason not to vote for Trump.
Well, it's a stretch to say Bill Clinton is/was "relatively fit." Just ask his heart surgeon. Who is he? Solid social issues conservative. Bible thumper for sure. Career politician (having served a long time in the House, I believe). Tax cutter. Not much of a consensus builder in Indiana so far. Will abandon fellow republicans and of course most moderates and dems on strong social issue stands -- some would call his stances extreme. I don't know. He's not very extreme for a red state. Seems like a guy solidly in the Koch fold, and I wonder if that's part of Trump's calculus, trying to get that Koch $.
Pence compared Trump favorably to Reagan, which probably got him the nod. The irony is that Reagan couldn't sniff the nomination in today's Republican Party. He would be seen as far too moderate.
if I'm not mistaken he's the same guy Trump was begging for support only to be shaken off for Ted Cruz.
Yeah, supported Cruz earlier. Actually think he's just ambitious and would sign on to nearly any GOP front runner. Contrary to some, I think this is a smart play. Wins over a lot of skeptical conservatives. Has Paul Ryan saying positive things for first time in a while, for instance. Koch money more probable now, if not assured. Maybe cinches Fox News for Trump too. If that wasn't sealed already.
Frank Caliendo is going to have to get fat again to continue his Trump bits. BTW, this one is a personal favorite: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Rdhr0KxnopA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
[Premium Post] Remember, Trump is winning independent voters by substantial margins. His gains from here forward are going to be driven by solidifying the base and then getting them out to vote in huge numbers. Pence was a driving force in the tea party movement, is a principled conservative, and just in general a salt-of-the-earth type of guy. Very different persona than Trump, in that he brings the reserved, practical, understated Midwestern personality type. Pence helps brings the base along. I think this pick also signals that Trump views himself as being strongly in the running in this race. Contract that to John McCain, who had to throw a risky hail Mary with Palin (which fell to the ground incomplete) as a way to change the game back in 2008... then the financial crisis hit and it wouldn't have mattered if Jesús Cristo himself were on the ticket, voters weren't voting for an incumbent party. Trump doesn't need to throw a hail Mary -- he can afford to go with the do-no-harm approach here. If Trump unifies the base, he's the odds on favorite to win in November.
I expect Trump to take the lead next week. Clinton's had about as bad as a week as she can and Trump will get a big bounce from the conventions. I think it's a sign of weakness from Trump that he hasn't taken the lead already. I expect that lead to be short lived especially with the DNC following right on the heals. Trump's biggest problem is still Trump. Making Mike Pence his running mate shores up some of his conservative side but I doubt those were Clinton voters anyway. Clinton will get a bounce out of the DNC and the groundwork and organization her team is doing will help carry he along with Trump's alienation of huge swaths of the voting public. I think this election will be similar in some ways to the Democratic Primaries Trump will make a lot of noise and have fervent followers, Clinton will continue to have high negatives but win with better focus and ground game.
The Pence pick was an attempt to shore up the base. To try to get the voters who stayed home in the last two elections leading to the cluster**** Obama being elected. I am not sure it will work but the Dems nominated such a bad candidate it may actually help. It is really sad when Trump is the better pick which shows just how bad Shrillary truly is.
Uh oh. Period for Pence is back... and now they're going to be calling Trump headquarters. LOL. http://www.bustle.com/articles/172933-periods-for-pence-has-come-back-with-a-vengeance Men (Jontro), you can call too. Fapping is called Testicular Testimonial and is a reproductive function that Pence would like to know about.
[PREMIUM DUMP] Pence is an uninspiring politician and an uninspiring choice for Vice President. Pence isn't even especially liked in his home state. He lacks charisma, is 50 years behind on social issues and is a bible banger. He doesn't exactly have a history of supporting Trump either. Another middle aged white male that is religious and hateful on social issues... Yea!
