To combat this threat you are going to need something more than just force of arms. Sadly the worse is likely still coming. You just know there is going to be some horrible Sum of All Fears type lone wolf attack in the US. Something way way worse than 9/11. God help us but it feels inevitable.
If you do a poll in Syria and ask people would they have done all the protests again if they could go back in time, what do you think the result will be? I bet the over whelming number of people would have choose to just go on with their lives instead of demand change. It is easy to think of Democracy and remove dictators, but the price is often too high for people involved.

You can tell who the individuals are that would panic in a high stress environment and the ones who would stay calm and rational by who posts vague assertions about being 'strong and bombing every Islamic region' and the ones who are willing to partake in a nuanced discussion of what is actually going on.
In reality, that is actually probably going to HINDER the fight against lone wolf attacks because shaking your finger at the general Muslim population is going to sway some Muslims into not reporting suspicious behavior at mosques. Yes, I know... Those Muslims should report suspicious behavior regardless if the president ****s on their religion,. I'm just making a claim of what will happen, not what ought to happen.

uhhh no. You are going in the complete opposite direction. Islam needs to police their own. You will not find a mainstream modern Christian who would passively let another Christian advocate or actuate a death of another person or group. Condemn to hell? Maybe. But to extinguish large groups of people and celebrate or say they deserve it, no. (And please spare me the quotes of extreme fringe groups like Westboro Baptist) That is the fault of Islam as a whole (on a global aspect). They are simply too passive. They continue to practice a culture that does not promote equality across the board. It is an extremely intolerant religion. Make no mistake, Christianity was once very similar....and it was wrong.
