That's what many don't understand. Defeating ISIS, the tangible entity in Iraq and Syria is relatively easy. But at he end of the day, defeating ISIS doesn't really prevent many of these attacks. As long as the CONCEPT of a caliphate exists, as long as it is a desire held by young isolated stupid men living in their mother's basement, these lone wolf type attacks are not going to stop unfortunately.

Uhh this is exactly why people mocked Obama when he called ISIS the JV team. It was well known that ISIS was not a military group like Al Qaeda. Sure, they had military factions, however ISIS is a political movement that encourages extremists to form their own factions. Instead the Obama administration continues to perpetuate that ISIS is a military group. Many of the liberals were very adamant that ISIS was not behind San Bernardo and Orlando because they were not directly commanded to do the attack. This is exactly how ISIS works. Instead, the ignorant liberals continue on their rant how Islam as a whole is being unfairly untreated. If there is nothing fundamentally wrong with modern Islam, then how is ISIS continuing to influence these extremist attacks? How many of these attacks happened before ISIS became on the world stage? Pull your heads out of your ass. ISIS is much worse than Al Qaeda.
The problem is not that simple, if unless you want to do mass deportation or mass genocide, you need the help of Muslim communities to prevent even more attacks, so profiling them might radicalize even more young Muslims. The French intelligence community and Law enforcement community is not what I would want to protect this country either.
Umm.. You are still wrong. There still is a physical entity known as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria that holds actual physical territory currently but still loosing ground. How do you want Obama to combat the ideology part of ISIS? And I think most liberals defend Muslims rather than Islam. Sure you an find some liberals like Ben Affleck who is clueless ans states vague naive assertions of Islam being peaceful, but look at this message board. How many liberal posters her besides Muslims themselves(reasonable for a Muslim to believe their religion is good) state Islam is 'peaceful'. They usually just don't feel comfortable condemning ALL Muslims. Most liberals here already have a distaste for religion in general in the first place. At most they believe all Abrahamic faiths are equally violent. Very few still say 'religion of peace'. That's just stupid.
So what haven't we tried yet? We definitely are losing the civilian causality race by a few hundred thousand. So we got the military/overwhelming power thing down plus being separated by two oceans helps us but not Europe. So what's left? Temporary halting of immigration? I wouldn't be entirely opposed to such a thing. Deportation? Total War? What am I missing?
How do we know it was a Muslim? I dont mind speculating and with the current trend, I certainly would place my bet on this assumption. We do not need to exterminate anyone. There are many many good Muslims who fully understand the principal of peace. What our current administration needs to do is stand up and criticize the modern fundamentals of Islam instead of cowering behind them and apologizing for their actions and defending them. One does not need to unilaterally insult a whole group. (like liberals do to Christians) If our administration would have any balls, they would get up and denounce the atrocious behavior that many Muslims follow. We love to hate on Christians for being homophobic but not a peep towards Islam. Do you not see the issue?

So Al Qaeda or any other major terrorist faction never claimed attacks away from their areas of operation? It seems like this is how they all work.
