What Houston Rockets player in the last ten years has been hyped as long as Donatas?

I sure cannot think of any.

He missed the playoffs the year before last...... he missed most of last season.... when he came back, he still missed games. Yeah, at this point he is habitually injured.

He has been an NBA player for four seasons, which is a long time.

He has had one season where he has played well enough to be in the rotation, one out of four seasons...

Who cares what Ariza did or has done. You don't consider someone a good shooter until they show over a long period of time that they can do it. Last year he shot 28% from the three point line. There is no reason to be confident that he will be a good three point shooter next year.

The best post player in the league is being offered around the league for trade, at 21 years old and having been the #2 pick in the draft.... that is really all you need to know about the value of post ups right now in the modern NBA.

A majority of big men look solid defensively next to an elite shot blocker, anchor like Howard was. For example, look at the much maligned Ryan Anderson. His Drtg when he played next to Dwight Howard was 103, 102 and 105.... when he didn't play next to Howard? Around 110-112.

Motiejunas' Drtg when playing next to Dwight Howard? 105, 106.... before Howard? 109.... after Howard declined? 110.

The defensive ratings of Motiejunas when not playing with an elite defender are very similar.... when playing next to an elite defender inside? Very similar.

A lot of big will look solid defensively next to an elite paint protector.

Of course his back issues are a reason teams are scared.... but he wasn't exactly a hot commodity prior to the injury. The Rockets have been looking to upgrade at the 4 since he has been a Rocket.

He isn't a terrible player, he can even be an effective rotation player, hence why I don't mind him back on a one year deal. However his career has not been anything special. People can discuss the promise, and it is possible (but unlikely) that he suddenly becomes a starter quality player; but he has gotten lots of opportunities and I would not count on it.

This. I can't believe it has been suggested that DMo is as good as Anderson lol. I don't love the Anderson signing for the price, but the guy is clearly better than DMo. His offensive game is miles ahead of DMo's. The rebounding difference is negligible. DMo is a bit better of a defender but that is not saying a lot at all.

He should go wherever he can get the most money, if ANYONE offers him over the league minimum he should jump on it. It's very likely his last NBA contract.

Donuts may not be as good as Rhyno but he does some things better than him.
And you may that the post game is underappreciated in the modern game however : a) versatility b) playmaking aren't some things that Anderson does not offer at all and DMO does.
Right now the latest fashion for GMs are to look for playmaking 4s more than stretch 4s.

Also being more of a 2 way player is very important for any other team than us who have completely thrown caution in the wind and said the heck with defence.
Any real contender would have to go to great lengths to try to hide Rhyno's horrendous defence. Not that much with DMO.

Uh, Stein, this is why the reports are that NOLA is only close to signing him. I don't think he's taking a one-yr minimum, otherwise it would be a done deal.

Weird way for Stein to say the two are still apart on final terms of the deal.

In fact, now it sounds like a potential agent-leak to get Jones' name in the news...looking for someone to step up with their Room Exception.

Well sure, he's trying to get more than that, but he likely won't get much more. The minimum is $1,050,961 for him so maybe he holds out and someone gives him 1.5 mil over 1 year but that's about the most I think he can expect. He shouldn't rush though, this is very likely the last NBA contract he'll ever sign.

Isn't the room exception nearly 3 mil? No way he gets that kind of offer. That's just lighting money on fire.

    I wouldn't consider D-Mo a 2 way player or playmaker.

Then that sounds about right, I'm sure he'd jump at 1.5 mil a year.

Finalized per Verticle, but oddly still no word on amount. Hell, maybe it is unlikely bonuses (which don't apply to cap) or something.

Well, he's certainly a better defender than Anderson, and he can guard/play two positions. He's also a very good passer for a 4/5, probably one of the better bigs around in that aspect.

It's for the minimum but could be more if they clear some salary room as they hope to

I really sat there and watched all 8 minutes of it lol. Harden's step back is already one of my favorite things to watch, so I'm excited.

If and when I speculate I indicate such. When I'm not speculating I'm not going to say I'm speculating just to be politically correct. When I said we weren't going to trade for Lawson and owe him two years salary I didn't say I was speculating. Because I wasn't speculating.

Now I said I'm speculating because I do know some things, little tidbits. When I evaluate what I know and try to put what I know together I speculate. I have never tried to disguise my speculation as fact(s). Neither am i going to disguise facts as speculation. However speculation is enclosing and surrounding facts with premonition. So rather than just state facts I surrounded them with speculation. Don't ask me to verify what is fact here. You'll just have to wait and see. That is.....if your are an outsider that likes to deride facts. ;)

Wanna know who the most highly sought player in trade is? No, not Kevin, Russ, or Blake. It's Cap. As in cap space. Teams are bidding to use BKN's (and others') cap space. Wanna know why Ainge is peddling that Nets pick so hard? Because the Nets could wind up a pretty decent team in the East. They may even be able to play their way up in the playoff chase with the addition of two or three premium players.
