<pre>Replace Reed on the MLB squad? If not Toro, maybe Stephen Wrenn since he is off to a hot start? /sarcasm</pre>
Toro is probably working out at the Astro's extended spring training facility. In some ways it is not a big deal for a recent draftee to start playing in the short season leagues. Toro has just finished a complete college baseball season in the spring. Just a WAG ... but ... there was some mention that Toro could switch to catcher from third. He could be working on his catching fundamentals???
Well, here's this. The signing deadline is Friday. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Don't think Tyler Buffett will sign w/<a href="https://twitter.com/astros">@Astros</a>. <a href="https://twitter.com/MLBDraft">@MLBDraft</a> <a href="https://t.co/E1wR4B2Nqb">https://t.co/E1wR4B2Nqb</a></p>— Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisMLB/status/752863832415035393">July 12, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
That's a bummer. Buffett, Howard, Barzilli, and Tuck were all guys I was fairly high on considering their draft position. But all in all still a successful draft for Houston (assuming they didn't make some terrible blunder and go overslot with Whitley counting on signing Buffett).
The Astros will lose $193,300 (value of Buffett's draft slot) from their pool. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"><a href="https://t.co/6QxaXhGJde">pic.twitter.com/6QxaXhGJde</a></p>— Tyler Buffett (@Candyman1111) <a href="https://twitter.com/Candyman1111/status/753319539375341568">July 13, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Johnny Ruiz (28) also plans on going back to school.

Isn't 5% overage of 5,375,000 286,750? Also on a side note, does the fact that our draft pool lowered because we didn't sign someone affect our overage? Is it 5% of the pool we have available from the top 10 picks or available from the guys we signed
Sorry, just seeing this now. I wanted it more rigid so that it is more fair to players. If a senior is worth drafting in the second round, he should get second round money. I don't like that agents for other players and teams can leverage seniors to take less money.
That is true. I was mainly saying the system was better from a mid-market team standpoint... but in the process, the players have it even worse. The union doesn't really give a crap about the young guys.
Tony Clark, MLBPA, said recently MLBPA couldn't legally negotiate on behalf of minor leaguers, however they'll negotiate how the draft and international signings work. I'm not a big fan of the MLBPA. Granted, I guess giving young players the shaft in the draft isn't really negotiating on their behalf.
Minor leaguers get the shaft from both sides, PA and ownership. If you didn't know, you'd be shocked and embarrassed by what most of those guys have to live off of.
