That would imply that he just became a d-bag based on the way he left Little D. Him being a d-bag was apparent before he left the Rockets.

Amin Elhassan, an ESPN analyst, said that he could never figure out why the Mavericks have struck out so often. He asked a connected NBA source and they said that it is Carlisle. Players respect him, but they don't want to play for him. He grinds players down.

Amin Elhassan; according to some of his sources, it's because of Carlisle that people dont want to come to Dallas

Whatever the case may be....I'm fine with it if it means it continues to keep the Mavericks in nba purgatory.

Here is Dirk complaining about the Mavs meanwhile some posters spent all this time talking about how the Mavs are so much better than the Rockets LMAO.

Seriously though, I think this just shows the plight of NBA teams even if you have money to burn NBA stars don't want to play unless you are a contender. That's why I don't believe removing the super star max salary will create parity, it will only result in more lopsided teams as resident stars will hold their teams hostage for 90% of the cap or they will bolt to other teams for less money in order to win and the team who is lucky enough to have several stars on rookie contracts will just dominate everyone (like OKC when Harden was still there or GSW when they won their first ring).

So before you cry about the Rockets only signing Anderson, take a look at other teams unless you are Celts, GSW, Spurs, LA, NYC or Lebron you will have problems attracting stars.

Mavericks get their share of name players. Just not THE BIGGEST players (while in their prime that is)

The Mavs actually should have NOT gotten too greedy in getting Rajon Rondo. They actually should have stayed the course with former big name Jameer Nelson until the next offseason. That was one move too many that killed chances of upward movement.

At the time of getting Rondo, the Mavericks had a BETTER OFFENSE THAN GOLDEN STATE. After Rondo, the Mavs went into mediocrity... Good for the Rockets who ended up beating the Mavs easy in the playoffs (with help of Parsons re-injury too). But Mavs could have portrayed a better team foundation for free agents than the Rondo trainwreck and ensuing Tyson Chandler REPEAT fallout.

Funny thing is we landed a player the Mavs coveted through FA, only to let him walk for nothing.

No, I mean from when he first entered the league and we all liked him. I agree that he has been a douchebag for a long time now. That pic with Cuban and his even douchier friend was like the peak of douchebagdom.

Mavs had a 115.2 offensive rating with the Jameer Nelson-Tyson Chandler-Parsons lineup in 2014 before that trade, which was the highest mark in NBA history. Then they made that stupid trade and now they don't have any of those players any more

With all the attention Cuban attracts, his ways of flapping his big mouth, getting too involved (emotional) and flipping the roster way worse than Morey it is not exactly an attractive organisation / team to join. An old Dirk and Rick the coach are not that attractive for a lot of players either.

    Thoughts on Mavs:

    1. Landing elite players is really hard. There are plenty of teams that are objectively pretty good situations that fail to land elite players. I mean, look at Boston. Until they finally landed Horford (who is really one step down from the real elite guys), they also had trouble chasing big time free agents.

    2. Elite guys probably want to see a pretty clear path to a title if they join. The Mavs have Dirk-- great player but aging so who knows how much longer he'll be effective-- but no other core guys or elite prospects to attract other players. They probably hoped Parsons would be such a "core guy" to attract others, but he's one or two steps below that level.

Dirk is the add on, he is the one that goes to these super teams and tries to hop on someone else's team to get that trophy. No one will come to join him at this point. He has to understand that's where he is at this point of his career. He should be the one going to The Warriors, The Cavs, or The Spurs. You would not have seen anybody running to The Spurs if it was just an old Tim Duncan and a bunch of scrubs.

The Mavs strike out because their future after Dirk is incredibly murky. There's no assets there other than the stability of the front office and coaching.

    Also, they're in the West

Without Dirk, Cuban is boned, and he better start worrying about his coach jumping to a better team once they bottom out.

Chandler is pretty funny. He was talking about luring Dwight to Dallas this off-season and he didn't even stay. Maybe he knew Dwight was going to Atlanta and decided to bail because he knew Dallas wasn't going to get any big-time free agents?

Either way....anyone who pays Chandler max money based on what he did in his stint in Dallas is a fool. All he showed is he is likely to be injured a lot.

But, that's part of the free agency game. It's all a big gamble as to what is going to work or not work. The only way to know is to play the game.

As far as what Dirk is saying, is he really that clueless? Your team doesn't have anyone to build around besides you...an aging superstar who is past his prime. Players may want max money but they also want a legitimate shot (at least...what they see may be a legitimate shot).

It isn't Dirk at all...it is that it is JUST Dirk. Mavs have built NO core, at all. They therefore pitch 'come here, and we will fill in the pieces around you'. Which, when compared to all the other teams that have those pieces already, is not a compelling pitch unless someone really wants to come be the centerpiece around which a team would be built. DeAndre Jordan had made that decision...but then chose the established team anyway. Cuban has never understand this fatal flaw in his plan, which is why he disdained draft picks..which is the real flaw. Nelson REALLY wanted to pick the Greek freak, as an example, but Cuban overruled so they could slide a few slots down and free up a few hundred thousand more dollars in cap space. No other NBA team in history so utterly failed to build through the draft. Over the last decade the only decent player the Mavs drafted was... Jae Crowder. Not a bad player, but hardly a player of the decade. The last decent player before that (that they kept for any appreciable time) was Josh Howard. You can't go 12 years between acquiring meaningful players in the draft and have a team anybody want to join...especially if you also keep recycling the free agents you do pick up.

That is an interesting analysis and I think it is the EXACT situation the Rockets found themselves in this offseason and why Al Horford liked the Wizards/Celtics situations over the Rockets. I am sure this was a big eye opener for the Rockets after the last few off seasons.

AND....it is why Morey changed courses and got 2 CORE free agents and signed Harden to a longer deal. BUILD THE CORE. SELL THE CORE in 2017 FA.

Lol, I still can't believe the contracts Conley and Parsons got... 1/4 billion (overt life of contracts) and 0 All-Star games between them. Conley obviously might not of had a fair shake with the guards in the West, but Parsons... Lololol, his last 2 years with the injuries (and okay play in Houston or when not injured in Dallas).. Wtf are the Grizzlies thinking???
