Yeah, and that's because he doesn't play like he should. He just tries to do too much, things he's just not able to do.

Damn. You're gonna put somebody's eye out with that kind of language. Worse than Clyde? Impossible.

Lol ooh. My bad. Honestly I thought "this [sic] overall game" was a typo and you meant his overall game. You're right, on the whole, this game was a stinky steep.

I completely agree. He will look so much better when he knows the system and his teammates. He's an excellent playmaker. Between Isiah and GPii, there's a pretty good chance that one of them will be a contributor.

Payton's handles didn't look NBA-ready. Stark contrast between him and Stockton in how effortlessly they can dribble where ever they want to go.

    I am disappoint.

Dekker looked strong. Really strong. Definitely not a bust strong. Probably a decent rotation player strong. His shot is a bit off but he's at least got some rust to knock off. KJ McDaniels shot is flat out broke. He has value as a pro defender and athlete but my goodness, what good is he outside of catching lobs? Dude can't even drive. As a guard.... Bench player/situational player at best. Wiltjer impressing y'all? I don't see it. He's a decent shooter. And? Harrell doesn't offer much outside of hustle. Didn't see GP2. Freeman got it going for a minute.

Keep in mind, this is Stocktons 3rd summer league season vs Payton's 2nd game

As bad as KJ and Dekker have been from 3, got to give them a pass because the only other option is Brewer, assuming he's not traded.

Sadly to say I would take Brewer (Veteran) over Dekker / KJ any day of the week.

KJ looks really really bad. I know it's summer league but its pretty disconcerting when he seems pedestrian against summer league talent.

    It is.

Classic "low risk" move that may not work out

What's everyone's thoughts on Kyle Wiltjer?
I hadn't heard or seen much of him until the Atlanta SL game where he went 3-9 (from 3pt) in 16min, but today 3-5 from 3 in 25min.
I gather he's supposed to be a 3pt specialist? Do people think he has a chance to get some burn this season?

Dekker will be a solid contributor for us once the game slows down for him. He had another solid performance.

Payton looks a little lost to me or he's just not confident in his game. In college I seen a very quick first step with some explosiveness. He's not showing that right now.

Love Harrell's energy and hustle but man he plays out of control.

Wiltjer can flat out shoot the ball but the big fella needs to have some court awareness. He was shooting a lot of three's from the parking lot. Take two steps forward and dude will be money all day long.

I like Freeman's game. Beautiful stroke from midrange.

His offensive game really does remind me of Dirk, but it's a slower, smaller, less versatile version of Dirk. I think he's got an outside shot at getting a roster spot, and I hope he gets some run for the Vipers this season. But I still wouldn't bet on him ever becoming an NBA rotational player at this point. He certainly has looked better than pretty much everyone else outside of Dekker, though, so at least there's that.

As you should be. Start of third season, same broke jump shot, same dumb play.

These are the things you have to look for in player development. KJ is still basically unplayable. But.........if you run him out there at the 2 with Harden, Ariza, and Ryan Anderson around him...he's going to flash a few weeks of "great stats". Because he'll get some finishes in transition and he'll get some steals. But in the long run we know he is fundamentally broken and it's only a matter of time before opponents catch on to his flaws.

What you're seeing now in KJ is the same thing I saw in Terrence 3 years ago. It's time to go. Trade him for a second rounder or as a throw-in for salary matching purposes. Just get him out of here so we can recoup the roster spot for a player that can either contribute or possibly be developed......like Wiltjer.

Harrell is another one that bears watching. He's undersized so he's got to show a major big time skill or else we will need to move on from him sooner than later. He had a few moments last season but not nearly enough that he could be pegged as better than an average player. So he's got to show major improvement soon in a key skill, either shooting or defending, or he will need to be moved out too.

Here's the thing. You can't afford to occupy the end of the bench (much less the rotation)with guys that are simply going to develop into average ballers. That's wasting time, money, and roster space. So you have to be able to tell quickly what you've got. This is why I'm advocating trading Capela right now. His trade value will never be higher and we know that if he develops he will be just an average center in the Association. Better to move him now at peak value, either in combination with other talent for a better talent/asset, than to hold him through his third season and watch his trade value plummet as his rookie contract starts to wind down simultaneously with the rest of the league realizing more of his limitations.

You can't fall in love with players just because they are in Rocket red and are young with enough talent to get drafted. Gotta have systems in place to start developing NBA level great skills and to develop severe weaknesses away from unplayable. This hasn't happened for KJ. It's time to feed him the ball for about 10 dunks in one of these summer games and then ship him out. He's wasting our time, money, and roster/cap space.

You are right. Can't fall in love with young players that don't improve enough to justify a roster spot like we did with TJ. I just feel he has to justify that 3 year contract and he can't shot or finish worse than Brewer. If Brewer shot 34% or more from 3, KJ should definitely be gone. Harrell needs to show improvement as well.

Sam looked good. He was able to finish with contact on quit a few plays.
