LOL oh I understand EXACTLY what the fundamental thing that folks who celebrate the color of their skin have in common.....that thing is racism no matter what the color of your skin is. If you are white and you have "white pride" then you are a racist *******. If you are black and you have "black pride" then you are a racist *******. If you are hispanic and you have "hispanic pride" then you are a racist *******. If you are asian and you have "asian pride" then you are a racist *******. The color of your skin is completely and totally irrelevant. If you are fixated on something that irrelevant, then you have problems that you can't blame on anyone else.
If that were true, you would be correct. But countless studies have shown that it isn't irrelevant. Certainly in the history and laws of this nation it isn't irrelevant. You can say that laws are better now, and they are but that has nothing to do with history. Just like Texans who have Texas pride because of the history of Texas and what the state has accomplished can be proud of that without being an ass.
People with 'white pride' have white pride because they feel as if they are superior. People with 'black pride' are expressing that they are comfortable with themselves even with the culmination of all the negative connotations of being 'black' for the last 400 years. If you don't see the difference you are either being purposely obtuse or an actual idiot or maybe both.

I feel like a lot of white conservatives feel that if the roles were reversed, AAs would do the same to them as was done to AAs historically. These fears are completely unfounded, but understandable.

Every minority has been persecuted by whites at some point. Pride is a way of minorities to gain self respect and build solidarity in a challenging environment because racism still exists. Whites have so much power and aren't discriminated against so why do they need pride events?

I mean, really, do you actually have to have people explain to you the history of the black population in this country? Not only from the 1700 to the 1860, but also from the 1860s to the 1960s and thereafter? You really are utterly clueless what it means to be a black person in America. You think the large majority of black people make up **** about being followed around in stores, being discriminated against for housing, etc.? I mean, sorry I have to inform you of this, but it's a real thing. And this is up to the present day- it was even worse in the 70s. Yeah, go tell any black person that you think Black Pride means that they feel they are superior to white people. They'll laugh their ****ing asses off. And go tell anyone that you think White Pride means that white people say that b/c they feel they are discriminated against in society. With the rare exception, they'll roll their eyes, too. You know, those of you who constantly have to make a point about how black people don't have it that bad anymore and that racism basically doesn't exist in a country with a large white majority need to realize that it's OK to (1) feel that people should not use race, gender, sexual orientation or anything else to commit criminal acts, etc- and at the same time (2) understand that several demographic groups in our society have had limited to zero rights in major areas for a very long period of time (and still get discriminated against today) and that it's OK to accept that they should be Woman Proud or Black Proud or Gay Proud. Discrimination is real, and all your cherry-picking regarding incidents of reverse discrimination doesn't bury that fact. You don't need to be threatened by individuals in these groups. It's perfectly OK to acknowledge there is a legit reason for the Pride movement and that you don't have to feel guilty nor defensive.

There are numerous studies showing blacks with the same qualifications get a worse deal in education/unemployment/housing opportunities/prison sentences etc. The only thing is that most folks see overcoming those inequalities are something to be proud of, and you are offended by that pride and deride it.
