So we're basically paying him 60 million dollars for 1 extra year?

We had him signed for 2 more years at an average of 16-17 mil per year. We extended him for 4 years with a player option after year 3. He will opt out looking for another max after year 3. So the new deal pays him on average 30 mil per year.

    30 + 30 + 30 = 90 mil over 3 years
    16 + 17 = 33 mil over 2 years

57 mil for 1 extra year.

I'm sorry, but this deal is horrible. Morey got fleeced.
No cap space for 3 years for only 1 extra year? What a joke.

We're not the Lakers, and now we are operating accordingly unlike Miami and OKC who just lost their franchise players:rolleyes:

Very very very very very pleased. One less (enormous) thing to worry about.

clearing 30m, while hard to do, is the equivalent of trying to move 20m under the old cap space. everyone's contracts are bigger. I think the point is, cap space is king, but as long as you have fair market value contracts (or better yet undervalued contracts) you can always create the space to sign FA's. therefore, as long as Dmo is signed to a fair or under value contract I wouldn't be too worried about being a player in future offseason FA signings.

Really sort of alarming how many people can't grasp this, tbh.

Desperate move and you really think Harden would accept being paid less than Ryan?

This reminds me of when Les extended McHale.

"We wanted to lock him up before anyone else had a chance at him"-Les of extending Mcfail.:grin::grin:

Harden said the same thing when we got Lawson last offseason. "He will take the pressure off and I will be better defensively." The lie detector test determined that was a lie. I will believe it when i see it.

you're looking at this short-sightedly. It's not just about the money and cap space. It's leverage for securing interest in additional players later + dramatically increasing the likelihood of Harden signing another 5 year supermax contract with us after this one. Plus it also let's players know the Rockets take care of their star players. Not everything of value can be quantified in $$'s.

Yeah but I'm not people and I don't think Morey sucks.

Gutting a team happens when you are trying to build a team around 3 star players, which has been Morey's goal all this time. The Warriors just jettisoned what 5 or 6 players? When the Heat got the big three together they were signing guys for the very minimum.

Ariza, Bev, Brewer won't be hard to deal at all. Ariza is a solid veteran that teams chasing contending ship would love. Bev's the same. Brewer's deal is running short.

What hurts teams are long bad contracts to players that are injured. Dmo could be this, if he's oft hurt then no one will want him any ways. If he's healthy though and plays well then he'd be the easiest contract to move. Seeing as how they almost already traded him and he didn't pass his physical than maybe not.

DMO is probably on his way out if he gets a big offer.

I guess Harden saw Dekker in that summer league game and said I'm all in.

Smart move by Harden. Gets a big raise for staying in Houston a little longer. It's a good deal for the Rockets also, if they can figure out how to surround Harden with some real talent.

He still needs to show and prove, for sure. But to be fair, Ty was no help. Not starting, not off the bench, and not in Indy.

We get it we are just disappointed at the cost. Not mention at first we thought we had a 4 year extension.

Not surprising. Many posters just refuse to see or acknowledge anything that doesn't support their own emotionally invested point of view.

I agree. Ty was awful, but I just don't like the owner and harden himself making excuses for awful defense. He's making too much money for that excuse.

I'm reading this thread and can't believe some people think this is a dumb move.

Clutchfans has lost it's way. Time to reset.

The Lakers have a plethora of titles and two #2 picks and other young players growing, the Heat have 3 titles and won 2 recently, the Thunder have been to the WCF a multitude of times recently. We've been there once, you are correct we arent them.
