You should ask your black friend about the hostility he's always had for the way he, his friends and family have been treated by police their whole lives.
I have a coworker who's son is in the Criminal Justice program and was studying to become a cop. She says he has changed his mind now after this week after already going through his first two years. I'm sure he isn't the only one.

Let's not get overboard on this 'cops now are prime targets'. There are many professions in the US that still have a higher death per participation rate. You are a coward to be afriad of ONE lone wolf. I guess every citizen should be freaked the ****ed out to send their children to elementary school now also because of school shootings. In 2015 more than 30 children died is school shootings. The same year, 42 officers died in shootings. It's almost as dangerous to be a child in school than it is to be an officer.
Yeah there are more professions that have a higher "death per participation rate" but I doubt someone would wanna shoot you if you look like a fireman. I don't think it's going overboard. It's a real thing now.
If you are talking death per participation rate, you need to look at the numbers to the whole otherwise it isn't a rate at all, just raw numbers. There are way more kids in school than there are cops. You are looking at something more like 30/50,000,000 vs. 42/750,000. Your numbers are off by at least a factor of 50x.
The other attacks on police included a Georgia man who authorities said called 911 to report a break-in, then ambushed the officer who came to investigate. That sparked a shootout in which both the officer and suspect were wounded but expected to survive. In suburban St. Louis, a motorist shot an officer at least once as the officer walked back to his car during a traffic stop, police said. The officer was hospitalized in critical condition. And in Tennessee, a man accused of shooting indiscriminately at passing cars and police on a highway told investigators he was angry about police violence against African-Americans, authorities said.

This is the age we live in now with information overload. Would you say the same about many well-off black people I've seen in recent days who say they can't sleep at night because they are so worried that there very educated and well-adjusted children will be gunned down by cops? I'd say the chances of a policeman being shot is much higher that the chances of an un-confrontational, unarmed black man being shot by police. I'm not going to begrudge anyone for that though, because their worry is genuine. I think it's just been shaped by this constant in-your-face stream of news from all over the world that makes it seem so much more immediate than it really is.
Of course the FBI is involved. That's horrible. Those are some horrible cops. Ok, seems like a nice quote to me. I don't see what is racist about it. He had this planned before the shootings clearly.
So you'd be fine with an organization holding up Dylan Roof as a role model and posting nice, non racist quotes by him on their webpage? Your mental gymnastics on this is impressive. You really go out of your way to prevent seeing the obvious. If you think that a cop killer who was a member of a racist hate group is a good role model to look up to, then you are probably a racist. That's just how it goes.
What I've heard is that one was potentially a girlfriend and the 2 others are male potential co-conspirators. I think they just haven't been able to clear them yet unlike the guy that handed over his rifle to cops because he saw himself on TV. They said that the only shooting was the dead guy so they are only looking for people who either knew about it or potentially helped him.
