Laughable to think that only "bitter" fans will remember a superstar joining a record breaking 73-9 team with another MVP in it. THIS has never happened before. There are little kids right now who are watching and will become nbaers in the future. Let's see who continues to admire Durant after this. Who wants to have a coward as their idol to immitate?
This is nothing like what Lebron did. The only way you have a worse situation is if this happened in the finals and he joined them later.
Much worse? OK, so top 15? all-time before winning this one in Cleveland to now top 5, if not top 3. Much worse? No, his legacy was already great! A championship in Cleveland just cemented that. It is a weak move. I'm not asking you or anyone to like it. But his legacy is damaged or ruined? No, I don't buy it! Journalists, ha. Yeah, they can say what they want now but when he's up on that stage winning a championship(s), maybe Finals MVP, they're not gonna say ****! "This doesn't count for Durant. He left OKC to do this. They were great before him. Doesn't mean anything, doesn't count." NO! His legacy is gonna be fine.
Honestly I think coward is the most appropriate word and Im a KD fan. Dissapointed for him, very weak move. He just gave up.
KD didn't turn down anything. The GS deal is for two years with a player option. He would have signed the same thing with OKC.
So the supposed best player on a team that choked a 3-1 lead to go to the Finals joins the team that choked a 3-1 lead in the Finals. Sounds like a perfect fit
Taylor has a short memory span. It's a derivative work at best. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/G7xlzLOZH5c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
5 or 6 years ago, people said the same about Lebron. Shaq was on a top contender at the cusp of a championship and forced his way out - TWICE - to go win championships in other cities. No one here has any idea what Durant's legacy will look like. Besides, it's funny to see so many fans care so much about someone else's legacy. KD's legacy is his to worry about. If he doesn't care, why the hell does anyone else? It wasn't a matter of honor - that's revisionist nonsense. It was a matter of a different CBA creating different incentive structures for players. Three wasn't even free agency through most of the 80's, and when it did exist, it wasn't structured to make it so easy to swap teams.
Presti's a great owner but it has to be concerning trading Harden and Ibaka away then losing Durant. I really hope for the sake of the city Westbrook stays
He didn't JUST left OKC. He joined a finalist who had just broken the all time RS record and had just 9 losses in a year! And another MVP in it. They will become the villains of everyone else. Book it right now. And if they lose everyone else will celebrate. Even I would cheer on the Bulls to beat them. Do you seriously compare right now Lebron who had gone straight to so many finals on his own or with superteams and with the player he is with Durant? At least Lebron had proved that he can go to the finals, and he can now also win on his own. And the team he joined wasn't the finalist of last season.
There really is no other way to put it, this was a very cowardly move. He didn't think he could beat the Warriors on the Thunder. Even after having watched Lebron just do it, even after being up 3-1 against the Warriors. And yes, this has NEVER happened before. People say the Big three in Boston with KG/Pierce/Allen but Pierce and Allen were never MVP candidates and they TRADED for those players... Lakers Super teams...both had players well past their prime. The first super team with Malone and Payton, they were both well past their prime. Malone retired the next year and Gary Payton should have retired right after him. (But picked up a ring sitting on the bench in Miami.) The other Lakers super team with Dwight and Nash, again Pau and Nash were past their primes and Nash retired the next year. Lebron is not even close as well, he wasn't joining the best team in the NBA and his team SUCKED. They sucked so much they instantly became the worst team without him. So Lebron was leaving a terrible situation. Durant is leaving a contender to join a contender. Not only that, he's joining a RIVAL team. This really has never happened before. It would be like if Kobe Joined The Spurs in his prime, Jordan joining the Pistons, Larry Bird joining the Lakers.
