I beg to differ. Just going through a tough period. Are Keuchel, Greinke, and Price terrible? It happens.
Technically, Sipp can agree, but that would be incredibly rare. Gomez wasn't optioned or outrighted to the minors. He was on a rehab assignment having been put on the DL.
1 mental mistake in the field by Val, leaving your starter in 1 batter too long, 2 0-2 hits given up by Sipp (although the pitch to Shuck wasn't terrible, good bit of hitting there), 1 completely blown replay call. Any 1 of those things goes the other way and who knows how the game turns out. If you subscribe to the theory that you'll win 1/3 of the games, lose 1/3 and it's the other 1/3 that determine your season...this is one of the latter I hope we're not remembering in September. Don't sell Knepper short. Also, they had Frank Dipino as their pen lefty but traded him for Davey Lopes at the deadline. Aurelio Lopez was great against LHB that year.
I just wish AJ would have found a better time to try him out. Giles wasn't thrown into a pressure cooker for a long while til he got it screwed on straight. I suppose he was trying to instill confidence in T Sipp putting him in at that point, but knowing you have the potential to gaina game on Texas already, why not go with your hammer Giles there at that point. He did a disservice to the rest of the team yesterday.
Maybe that was just the exorcism the team needed? RF George Springer 3B Marwin Gonzalez 2B Jose Altuve SS Carlos Correa CF Carlos Gomez 1B A.J. Reed DH Evan Gattis LF Jake Marisnick C Jason Castro P Collin McHugh Nice to see Jake get a 2nd start in a row, he had a couple of good swings at Sale yesterday (a foul ball and his fly to RCF), hope that continues.
I don't disagree at all. I guess managers have bad days at the park, too...same as players. Live and learn.
It would be hard to imagine Knepper pitching the 9th in today's game, especially after the first 2 batters reached. (I still blame Hatcher for not catching the lead off triple).
Like the movement on Collins cutter, and the location of his fastball. Fewest curves I've seen him throw in an inning lol. Let's jump on him early!
Would be great for Springer to snap out of the funk he's been in the past 20-something games. Driving the ball on a line the other way is a good sign.
