Feliz threw 49 pitches today. The last time he threw 50+ pitches in relief in the major leagues in a close game was...never. He did throw 64 in a blow out loss to Texas last year in order to save the bullpen. (gave up 5 runs) He is worse against left handed hitters than righties (although still good against them).

Tough way to lose considering we got to Sale.

Good, AJ Reed going deep, and we got runs off Sale.

Bad, Fister was bad today, hopefully it's just a bump in the road and he can keep being quality.

Ugly, Tony Sipp. This morning I stated how I want to see him get more work, and I stand by it. Over the last 3 years he's proven to be quality when given regular work, however this is not what I wanted. We've had plenty of chances to get him out there with comfortable leads. But he hasn't pitched in a week, and only 1 time since June 21st. Didn't want to see him out there today. Frankly I wouldn't want to see any pitcher with that little work brought into a tight situation.

Tony Sipp has no business pitching in close games right now given his form and the depth of this bullpen.

I'm all for giving Hoyt or someone else a chance over Sipp to see if his issues can be worked out. It's not ideal to go all righty in the pen but not unprecedented. Going back awhile, the 1986 team did that.

Talk about choke jobs. The bullpen lost 3 games in that series, including 2 blown saves by Dave Smith.

I wasn't talking about the Mets series, just the 1986 team did that. It was the bullpen choking, not that they were all right handed that was the issue.

Anyways, back to what I was actually saying in my post. I in no way advocated a permanent switch, just a temporary fix to see if there's some mechanical issue that Sipp needs to work out. Better to do that in Triple A for a couple of weeks than up in the majors. He's going to be needed down the stretch and we all know he's better than what he's showing now.

Lets hope that those here who believe in voodoo, team chemistry, hex's, and signs don't put much stock into this... they were playing their best baseball at his most annoying, 0-1 since the decision.

Back to the Sipp talk... it really has to be the infrequent use that has him struggling. But he's just not good enough to warrant being used more often than he has been... (or more importantly, the rest of the bullpen has been upgraded).

it could be worse, I remember Bo would use 55 pitchers to face to 2 batters.

Just go with your most trusted to date. if Dev,Feldman,Feliz, Giles and Pat fail it happens but sipp has been terrible for over 6 weeks. We have maybe the second best bullpen in the league.
Fock the leftie vs leftie, rightie vs rightie for one out. we need to win and sipp can't be trusted right now. Eventually he will break out of the rut.

And 19 hours later, I'm still wondering how instant replay works. we should still be in extra innings.

Considering the Rangers went down in flames yesterday, its too bad we didn't gain another game on them. 7.5GB would have been sweet.

Sipp must have shown something in practice that Hinch liked, but it did seem an odd time to throw him in there given all the reason already stated.

A brief but memorable era in forum history hath come and gone. We now must pick up the pieces and face the question that we've all long wondered and feared: "is there life after cangrejero?"

I'll never be able to get the voice I imagine while reading his posts out of my head.

Let's get this series win today.

Serious question.....why not? Is it bc he's been on a big league roster for a specified amount of time?

Man...I would've been just fine had you not put the superstitious angle on his departure. Grrrreat.

Not sure what to say about Sipp, other than hopefully there is a slight mechanical flaw that they just haven't found yet. Similar to Giles...I remember him saying it was something small that had been tipping his fastball. When he figured it out he's had better results. Hope it's the same for Sipp.

I don't think he had a lazy offseason becaude he got paid, although I guess it's a possibility.

In his case? Yes, because he has more than 5 years service time.

Actually he was here yesterday so it starts today. Don't write off Cangre too soon I predict a stranger in gametime threads with single digit posts. :)
