You are a senior poster and should know that Defensive rebounding is an integral part of Overall Defense. You cannot separate them whenever you like it.
It helps but I was actually thinking the opposite - that with our bigs getting a facelift this offseason, if they weren't going to be able to improve production via acquisition(and there were not great rebounding bigs available), then they better get better at not missing - which is exactly what they did today by adding MUCH needed shooting(if at the expense of defense). Even with a high volume rebounder like Dwight, we had a bottom half rebounding team last year. I think a lot of that had to do with teams making more FGs against the Rox than any other team in the league aside from Memphis. Generally you get more defensive rebounds than offensive ones, and Houston had a situation where teams didn't leave a lot of missed shots on the table against the Rockets to rebound and on the other side Houston was a poor shooting team giving other teams a better chance at out rebounding us.
Yes, but offensive rebounding is overated....just get the Defensive rebounds play D, and you can lose the overall rebounding battle and still win big. DD
From what I recall DMo did not like playing center or people felt PF was his natural position The new guy we drafted in the second round . . . .when will he be ready Rocket River
Health and team defense will be the keys to success for this team. If they can do those things - and it's HUGE HUGE IF - they could be successful. We will suck at rebounding, and we will be terrible 1 on 1 defenders. It's all going to come down to help and finding the weak link on the other team.
We need to trade Capela. Hes going into his third season and has shown some promise. But his limitations and lack of development in key areas of the game tell me it's time to go. Because if he starts this fall and is overwhelmed defensively his asset value simply craters to zero. That's too much risk to take for a guy with Capela's limitations. We need to cash in on him this summer.
Is this the new player to hate on? 21 years old .. . . you give up on him already? Such short term thinking will kill this team Rocket River
need center bad, this team is going to suffer from no rebounding. There will be high scoring games, but when there no defense, rebounds being pulled, other team will be up ahead in games late, 115-109 most times, making the rockets harden really sweat out some work, resulting in loses from impossiblity, i mean he cant be 20 points in 4 mins man.
To the OP's point, I couldn't agree more, we need rebounding bad; which begs the question why our roster only has bigs who can't rebound.
Capela has been an above average rebounder and shot blocker on the Rockets. His numbers speak for themselves. What is worrisome is his stamina. At the beginning of last season he was terrific in the pick and roll and was cobbling up rebounds. towards the middle of the season he disappeared on the court and was blowing dunks. His free throw percentage also dropped as the season progressed which further indicated his stamina was not where it needed to be. He averaged 19 minutes a games last season and we will probably need at least 25 from him this season. In 14/15 he got 31% of available defense rebounds which is an elite number. In 15/16 he dropped to 22% of available defensive rebounds which is middle of the road at best. We need him to be the man grabbing up to 28% of available defensive rebounds next season. If he can improve his stamina I think we will be fine with him.
