according to Eric Pincus cap expert from bballinsiders Atlanta has to find someone to take on Splitter + Hardaway jr. Easy.
wait: if we SnT Dwight to ATL, they use Bird Rights on both Dwight and Horford, and don't even need to purge salary. With us, they don't need to trade anyone. They'd just need to give us some small token back...by helping them keep everyone together. Of course, that means we'd be giving up on Horford. Would Morey really help them do that vs forcing them to make a painful $14m salary purge in order to keep Horford.
I wonder what ATL would envision with a Howard, Horford, Milsap front court.... They might just hold onto Milsap and try to figure out the roster later hoping to find a better haul for Milsap later on. (i.e. what we did with Asik)
That's not correct math by spotrac or anything else we are hearing. That's just $10.5m. Sounds like that guy is assuming ATL renounces their two 2016 first round picks (which are a combined $3.1m cap hold). ATL won't do that. Purging Splitter + Hardaway jr. + Taurean Prince + DeAndre' Bembry won't happen
yeah if i'm not mistaken the bird rights would allow them to go over the cap making a purge unnecessary. We could get something out of it (ideally Milsap), but we could shake more assets out than other teams since we have Howards bird rights. am i mistaken?
Heyp, this should help answer your questions: http://www.peachtreehoops.com/2016/...ency-2016-al-horford-atlanta-hawks-salary-cap
Right. The only caveat is that means we absolutely lose Horford. Why would we help ATL like that? Morey would have to be convinced it wasn't a bluff...that he has no chance at Horford.
The Hawks would need to get to $18 mil in space for a cap hold to re-sign Horford - they can then give him max tiago Spitter is at $8.6 mil - not quite enough by himself out in trade to keep the Horford cap hold If Hawks can find a team to take Splitter + Hardaway Jr. w/o salary back - enough room to keep Horford Doesn't say about renouncing anything. Even they had, which they don't, why wouldn't they just trade them away for future picks? Prince, other wing rookies > Horford?
So, that confirms the ~$14m purge? Yeah, they could purge 3 to 4 vets is what that's saying. Splitter and Hardaway doesn't get it done.
Okay - so to recap, Atlanta has been promising Horford they would get him a center forever so he could play his preferred position at the PF. Then they went out and acquired Millsap forcing Horford to play C. Now when he is a FA, they are trying to retain him after signing Dwight but they can't do it without finding a taker for either Millsap or multiple players including the last Big they acquired - Tiago splitter(who they gave a large contract last year). If I'm Horford, I'm like, Atlanta has made their bed - now they have to lie in it....the complication for Houston is, they don't have a starting NBA center on the roster so why would Horford want to go back to the same situation, but in a different town?
No, that's not the math. The math is you have to add Howard and Baze's salary to Horford's $18m cap hold plus $3.1m for their two rookies. Add that with their current salaries and they are $14m over the cap. $14m needs to be purged to add Dwight, Baze and keep Horford and the rookies' cap holds.
That might get us something out of this whole deal with ATL and Howard, if those players/contracts don't hamstring us + we get assets out of it. But as HeyP said, we'd have to be sure Horford is going back to ATL.
I know, but you didn't say Scott in your first "Easy" post. Didn't realize you were assuming they'd cut him. I guess so, 'eh. If so, I agree, trading Millsap doesn't seem like their first option at all...and that makes the thread moot.
