We need to stop going to games and buying merchandise..these contracts are getting out of control!#AreYouNotEntertained#WeFlippingTheBill
well that's what the league tried to do (though some don't think they tried that hard) with the smoothing proposal. instead of the cap flying up 24M you smooth it over a couple of seasons and so if you artificially only increase the cap 12M, then you just give the 12M difference to all of the players equally. but for some reason the union didn't want it even though it would seemingly benefit the 75% of players who aren't free agents instead of just the 25% who are. also, i've thought before that contracts should be based on a percentage of the cap. you sign for 10% of the cap. if the cap goes up 5%, your contract goes up 5%. if it goes up 35% like this year, your contract goes up 35%. in the past, the problem was the maximum raises were higher than the cap increases so the longer term you had a guy, the worse and worse his contract got. now, longer term contract look too good and, as you said, all the current free agents are getting overpaid relative to everyone else. contracts that moved with the cap would let everyone be rewarded for cap increases (or i guess be punished by cap decreases). but i guess no one wants that.
as long as the players as a whole get 50% of the money, the owners won't be concerned about 1 individual contract. it just means memphis overpays and some other team gets to underpay.
Great for him. If the sorry owners can dole out this type of money just think how much the owners are making themselves. You narrow minded fans are short sighted, these owners do nothing to deserve the hundreds of millions they rake in every year while the players are exploited in every way to cash in donkey dollars. Great for Conley, any idiot that wines about this need to educate themselves before speaking. He's a damn good point guard and floor general that shoulve beaten GSW last season before he got injured. He's a great traditional PG and leader, well deserved. Uneducated trolls have your freakout accordingly.
Dear lord wtf has happened to the NBA cap? 30 million a year for a PG that has never even been name an all star?
Good for SIlver allowing players to make this amount of money crazy, probably, but the NBA makes billions and billions of dollars, so this is their fair share
After giving Conley and Parsons the max, how much more cap space does Memphis have? I don't even see them being a payoff team between Conley and Parsons.
