Why is no one talking about how bad of a rebounder he is? Rebounding was the Rockets biggest problem, especially defensive rebounding where they were dead last.
Does he? Replacing a 20 rebound rate player with a 12 rebound rate player on an already awful rebounding team doesn't sound like a recipe for success. Yes, he's a great talent offensively, but just straight replacing Dwight with Horford makes us a worse team, IMO.
Just a friendly reminder....he is 30. I'd still be happy if we signed him, but he will be declining in his last two years. At least his game doesn't depend on athleticism as much as other guys.
He's not a bad rebounder, he's just below average for the position. He's also: - an elite post passer - an above average shooter (especially for position) - an elite defender - only 29
Don't be the "yeah but" guy. Player X can do all of these awesome things, yeah but.... No one is perfect. Not all of the boxes will be checked. Just check most of them. If the Rockets can find a way to nab Horford, absolutely jump on that.
he's also a 4 that has played the 5 nearly his entire career. that certainly doesn't help, especially when the guy playing the 4 next to you is only 6'8". horford ain't ppat y'all
Add that he also played less minutes (because of the way Bud manage his players) these past seasons, and he played more on the perimeter -> less offensive rebound offortunities. And he can play (well) two positions (on both sides of the court)
Al Horford is perfect for the MDA offense IMO. You can pass the ball to him in the low post without having to worry about wasted possessions like what regularly happened with Dwight. You can run the offense through him on the High Post. He can stretch the floor and open up the lane for James Harden to drive. He is not Dream or Moses or Yao but he is light years better than Dwight on the offensive end of the floor.
I hope rockeys grab him but honestly it would make more sense. You got westbrook already then that guy they just traded for then possibly durant where rockets only have harden
No doubt I'm all for Horford at a max. Problem is if Conley isn't interested, who's our second fish? Batum? What do we do with Ariza and Beverley, are they really on the block? Who's going to be our other playmaker on offense? Morey I must know!
Horford would be a really nice addition. I doubt we get him because I doubt we max him out. He is a similar caliber player to Howard now that Howard has declined, but if he is more engaged than Howard was last year it will make a difference.
For what it's worth, fans on the Hawks message board aren't seeing Houston as a threat to sign Al, and seem to be more concerned with Boston and OKC.
Well, you can read through the pages which I gave more explanation than just the simple stats. Dwight and Horford are different kind of players. If you want to put it into context, then : - Dwight is a better defender, a better shoot blocker, a better rebounder. - Horford is a better mid range jumper, an ok 3 pt shooter, a very good FT shooter but he ain't going to create much fouls per game as his FTA is pretty low. - On the FT issue, the only benefit we can consider will be the other team can not use this strategy to break the rhythm of the Rockets when Harden is getting hot, which teams like the Spurs always will use it. - But no, it will be silly to believe the FT of Horford will be a big factor for the Rocket to win the game. And if the NBA will do any changes to the hacking issue, this will even be a totally non factor. - Horford could be a good and decent pick setter, but he ain't going to roll to the basket as effective as like Dwight, but then again, he is going to stay behind the arc often and that indeed will create more space for Harden. - Horford played in a system that likes to pass the ball, it ain't going to happen in here. He is a decent scorer but he ain't the kind of player that can create his own shoot. - As much as people hating the Dwight low post play, when Harden will be in the bench, with this current roster, will you prefer an ISO by Bev or a 3 at the shot clock by Ariza or Brewer? Look, I am not saying signing Horford will be another failure like the Lawson deal, but at the same time, if anyone will believe that this team changing from Dwight to Horford will be an instant upgrade and the upgrade will be so significant, this is just silly.
