The reason this meeting really interests me is that outside of KD, "meetings" seem to be at a premium for max FAs this year. Excluding their own teams, Whiteside and Conley are apparently only going to meet with Dallas, and have already narrowed it down to two teams. Horford has no meetings scheduled (at this time) besides the Rockets. Dwight has only Atlanta and Boston. It makes sense, of course... while the NBA would like to pretend it doesn't happen, recruiting has been going on for weeks, and all of these guys have been studying the market. There's no reason to drag it out. If these guys want to win, it benefits them to make a decision as quickly as possible so that their team (new or existing) isn't left in a period of uncertainty while the rest of the market dries up. It's possible that Horford will add more meetings, but the fact that he hasn't yet (and FA starts in less than 9 hours) is encouraging.
You just posted stats... Stats that one could say are better in Horford... But this is why... Horfords skillset fits better on the team and he has less deficiencies in his game compared to Dwight at this stage.
It was a failure relative to expectations, yes, but it's been dramatically overstated at this point. There are people who legitimately think we were on Kings/Lakers level this year.
I think a lot more meetings will be announced, teams may actually be keeping it quiet in hopes to not let rival teams know what there up to possibly? No way Horford only meets with us and Atlanta, I would bet anything on that lol.
No way is he taking a discount to play for the thunder. No player takes discounts I don't know why ppl always think these players don't want the money..... The money is the most important thing to them. Horford has been playing the last few years getting like 10 mil he's getting that max and running with it. Hopefully it's here in houtson.
D'Antoni's seasons in NY an LA both been rated as failure, or some even labeled as disasters. Putting all the blames on the front office all you want, but Mitch Kupchak was always regarded as one of the top tier GM in this league and even that LA dream team failed miserably, to say its all his fault I don't think its a fair assessment either. D'Antoni's success came in the days when he was in the Suns, at the setting is much different than what he got in NY, LA and even now the Rockets. Steve Nash is an awesome PG and at his prime, but he ain't a scorer like Melo, Kobe and Harden, and he got the ball most of the time - not for scoring but distributing. Nash did have great teammates in that era, he got STATS, whose probably at least on par or even better than Yao before he got injured, he also got the Matrix in his prime, whose probably one of the best if not the best defender in that era, and also a young and developing Joe Johnson. You look at this current Rockets rosters, can you find even one name that will be remotely close to the quality of the players mentioned above in those Suns team? Or do you find a lots of similarity of this current Rockets team roster very much comparable to those shhltty Knicks team?
The meeting would be very successful as being predicted, but he is going to have more successful one after another.
I'm not sure how much better he is than Dwight like what exactly can he do better than shooting free throws?
Nope, he's the worst defensive center in the NBA. He's a liability every time he steps foot on the court.
Meetings are leaked by agents, who have no interest in keeping it quiet. I think most folks place FAR too much importance on the role of these "meetings" and such. It doesn't take a genius to figure out if a team has the cap room and whether the free agent in question likes the idea of playing there. Also, since the NBA doesn't restrict player communications, these guys have been calling and texting one another for weeks. For example, Whiteside is apparently only going to meet with Dallas and Miami, but that doesn't mean those are the only two locations he considered. It just means that those are his finalists after looking through the market and being courted for weeks.
Shooting, passing, knowing what he is as a player, and basketball IQ for starters. Also...if Dwight's last year is any indication, then you can throw defense into that list as well.
