Goldschmidt posted an 8.8 WAR last year; he's on pace to hit 7+ this year. There will not be a pitcher *that* good available via trade. And, frankly - while there is no science to any of this - a hitter, at least to me, feels like a much safer play than a pitcher. (Looks at Carlos Gomez, deletes post... rewrites it.... thinks a little bit more. Cries. Posts.)
I wonder what Chris Archer would cost. He's had a rough start to the the season (and poor ending to last year, IIRC), but he may be the most realistic "ace" option on the market, given: 1) few teams are selling right now, and 2) this doesn't look like the strongest pitchers market. Teheran would be a nice pickup, but I'm sure ATL will ask for an arm and a leg for him. I don't think he's worth the price for which ATL is probably going to ask. Sonny Gray is another arm that could theoretically be had. Regardless, the "ace" arms on the market are few and far between. It will be interesting to see how Luhnow and co. act as the deadline nears. Even despite our recent trades, our cupboard looks relatively plentiful.
I think Archer would be as much or more than Teheran. Archer has definitely proven himself a top pitcher and is under control for five more seasons (2021) at discount numbers. A money tight team like TB would have to get a huge package to give up that much surplus value.

Posted in other thread, but just for clarification: they wear the gear of whatever team they're working out for that day.
I wonder what Tyson Ross would cost. He's been out with a shoulder injury almost all year and has one year of arbitration left. He is obviously a big risk with a shoulder injury, but potential huge reward. Would have to come cheap.
I agree, but of course he could never be healthy again and they may want to cut their losses. I highly doubt he gets traded, though there is still a chance he could make 2-3 starts before the deadline.
If we acquire Lucroy, I hope we deal Gattis away. Of the starters I'd want: 1) Sonny Gray 2) Julio Teheran 3) Drew Pomeranz 4) Matt Shoemaker 5) Rich Hill Would all depend on cost, but I'd love any of those 5.
Gotta keep Gattis he will be the catcher after they let Castro walk. On another note, imagine the lineup if Crane had spent a little more $$$$ and signed Abreu. I hope they sign Gurriel he could be a differencemaker.
