Just several hours before the attacks Ted Cruz held a senate hearing on 'radical Islam'. Perhaps they should pass some of that gum around the airports in Turkey (see bold).

Cruz chairs contentious U.S. Senate hearing on 'radical Islam'

Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday accused the Obama administration of under-emphasizing the "threat of radical Islam" as he presided over a Senate hearing for the second time since suspending his presidential campaign in early May.

President Barack Obama and top Justice Department officials have come under fire from conservatives for avoiding the term "radical Islam" when denouncing attacks by violent extremists who claim inspiration from Islamic State, such as the Orlando nightclub shooter.

Administration officials have countered that focusing on the use of the phrase is a political distraction and gives fuel to Islamic State propagandists who say the United States has waged war against all of Islam.

Absent from Tuesday's hearing before a subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee were the two top Justice Department counter-terrorism officials whom Cruz had invited to testify.

"The Obama administration of course has declined to appear and explain its policies," Cruz said at the hearing, noting that the officials had not provided any reason for staying away.

Justice Department spokesman Marc Raimondi said in an emailed statement that the department is "focused on aggressively and successfully pursuing terrorist adversaries" and on denying them "unchallenged recruiting platforms to spread their messages of hate and intolerance."

Democratic members of the subcommittee said national security policies more targeted at Muslims, such as presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslim immigrants, would be unconstitutional and counter-productive.

"We cannot fight radicalization with further radicalization," said Democratic Senator Christopher Coons of Delaware, adding at the end of the hearing that he did not think "arguing over semantics" for three hours had helped improve American national security.

Experts from Muslim and Arab advocacy groups as well as former government national security officials testified at the hearing, representing both sides of the debate over whether the administration emphasizes Islam too much or too little in its counter-extremism policies.

Protesters with Code Pink, an anti-war advocacy group, offered Cruz packs of gum labeled "Islamophobin" as he entered the hearing room, telling him it could cure Islamophobia.[/rQUOTEr]

It's nice to know that billions of followers of Islam are not following Islam correctly. Smh.

Maybe you need to re read everything and realize that it has historical context to it as well. And maybe you should go talk to those that have actually read, memorized, understood and studied it and bring up your arguments to them.

Gun laws in Turkey are actually pretty restrictive from what I'm seeing. All semi automatic weapons are banned and you have to be 21, have a doctor sign off that you are physically and mentally healthy, there's a background check, and you have to show "genuine reason" for owning a firearm. If you have anything like domestic violence and you will be denied a permit to own a firearm. You also have to re-apply for a gun owners license every 5 years.

Of course gun laws don't really matter to those who are going to do harm.

A lot of bending over backwards to claim it isn't Islam.

From listing every possible non Islamic group as a possible culprit, to pointedly stating it is a sad day so many Muslims died today to the classic 1.6 billion people can't be wrong argument.... With the undertones of course being this has nothing to do with Islam, just a group of bumblers who happen to do it in the name of Islam and want an absolute theocracy and the death of all infidels and **** and all women put under foot to be used for the whims of men.... But nothing to see here... Just a few idiots.

How can you possibly dismiss FranchiseBlade's strong hypothesis that the GREEKS were behind this?

My question is whether it was the Sigma Chi's or maybe the SAEs???

I haven't seen anyone claiming that this was not an act by an Islamic extremist group. Early indications are that indeed it is such a group.

Whether you want to say these groups represent all Muslims or not is a different idea. I don't see the value is trying to say 1.6 billion muslims are a terrorist threat unless you are saying we need a wider war or there is a need to eliminate all Muslims from our societies.

I love how you and your like also like to bend backwards to claim it is nothing but the religion yet these terrorist continuously point to political reasons. I guess keeping it simple is easy on the brain.

Last few terrorists have been bar owners, homosexual club enthusiast, individuals who just starting getting "religious". Family members and friends keep mentioning how they not very religious and recently changed. Common theme here.

I'm Muslim. First thing that came to my mind was obviously f'n ISIS did this. To all the people that are pissed at Islam and all Muslims in general, what would you have people like me do exactly? I f'n sucks that their are terrorists out there that do this in the name of Islam, but there is not much most peaceful Muslims can do about it though.

They want to label your religion a toxic evil thing so they can start discriminating against people like you. That's the real truth.

Lou, please read the words of the teachings in black and white before you post stupid crap like this. You sound like a fool. You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Not to mention your discrimination boogyman you fear so much, the only place where real discrimination is in places that use skin color as a a means for determining merit like the University of Texas does.

Why don't you post why you disagree instead of making an ad hominem attack?

Seems to me whenever anyone disagree with you, you just attack them personally. Usually that's a sign that they are incapable of debate so they just call someone an idiot.
