Astros play exactly zero opponents above .500 in July.

And if the White Sox, Seattle and Detroit all win tonight, then 12 of their 25 games in July are against teams over .500. :)

Fangraphs now has our playoff odds at 50.1%! I believe that rounds up to 100%!

Regardless, my point was that the Astros will play teams that they are at the very least equally talented as.

I think we play better against all teams not named devil rays and rangers.

Nothing we didn't already know (well all of us except for one), but Mike Trout hit an amazing homerun last night. Colin McHugh made an amazing pitch, got the swing he wanted which would have struck out anybody not named Mike Trout. And even then, Mike Trout out Trouted himself.

It was amazing and to have any other feeling than pure admiration, you need to be stripped of whatever baseball talking credentials you thought you had.

If you were not in amazement last night, you were obviously just following the game on gamecast.

You just have to tip your hat sometimes.

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mike-trout-wants-your-curveballs-now/

Granted, the article goes on to detail how Trout is hunting curveballs and doing a great job slugging them, but that was a perfect pitch which should have drawn the swing and miss requiring Castro to block and throw Trout out. But Mike Trout happened.

The best part of the article summed up:

Only 1 game now to the WC, but trying to catch good teams from here on out. Boston, KC, and Toronto are legit. Should be a dog fight.

Astros control their own destiny. Win out and they make the playoffs (and most likely win the division - although they don't control their division fate). :)

Gonna be at the game tonight. Was hoping to see LMJ pitch but maybe Reeds gets his first hit.

*was there for Tucker's first hit last year.

I missed responding to this because of the lateness last night. Let's examine this particular game:

Astros winning 3-1 going into the 9th. Harris got an out and then gave up 3 straight singles. Fortunately Escobar was thrown out on the bases so there were 2 outs and Calhoun on first. Trout had 2 strikes. On the next pitch, a ball, Calhoun stole second. So, with a 1-2 count, Harris continued to pitch to Trout rather than walk him (according to manager cangrejero) and put the winning run on base.

TROUT MADE THE OUT TO END THE GAME. HOW IS THAT A BAD THING?

Now, let's further examine Trout vs. the Astros this year. Coming into last night, Trout was 5-21 against the Astros with 1 double, 1 triple and 1 HR and 6 walks. So, when they actually made him swing the bat, he had 5 hits in 27 plate appearances. He had 1 more hit than strike out.

And, as Trout will do - considering he is the best player in baseball - he had a good game.

DP in first inning on breaking pitch around the middle of the plate.
HR on a pitch a couple of inches off the ground
    Bloop double on a pop-up
Another double on not a terribly hard hit ball

We came back in the 9th to win it!

No doubt in my mind Reed will break out in a good way.

I expect his first knock in the majors.

I'm in Pittsburgh working this week. Luckily the game was on ESPN last night, I stayed up and watched it. I love it!

I'll be back in August when they play at Pirates.

KC is meh. Hopefully one of Boston, Toronto, & Baltimore will fall back.
