Someone will pay them more than we can offer. We can get similar production for a much cheaper price (and more upside) elsewhere.

The Rockets would pay Parsons the maximum if his knee passes their review. His maximum is only 22 million and he fits the D'Antoni offense perfectly. Defensively I think you would see him play primarily power forward in Houston. He has poor instincts defensively on the perimeter but in 2016 can defend well enough at power forward.

Parsons played very well before getting hurt again last year. I could see him pushing 20 points a game in Houston with good efficiency and near 40% from 3.

Yes, because paying that much for another bad back makes so much sense.

So we Didnt match Parsons because we didn't think a 3-some of Dwert/Harden/Parsons was enough. But now parsons is worth $22 mil and harden/parsons/x is enough? This seems like twisted logic to me.

Any time a basketball player undergoes any form of micro-fracture knee surgery, their knees will always be an ongoing issue in my opinion. Yes, I feel it would impact any contract offers he will get from teams. 2 straight seasons ended due to his knees, he won't be at the level he was as a Rocket.

"Only 22 million" gives me a headache. The max amount Yao Ming ever made was like $17M and McGrady was like $22M I think. This stuff is moving too fast!

The Rockets were in a different situation when they choose not to match Parsons. They were in an easier position to add another elite player and were a far more attractive destination to prominent free agents.

Also Parsons would start at 22 million and was at 15 million under his old deal, in modern dollars with the massive cap increase this season and next, he isn't really costing anymore.

The Rockets are in a tough spot because they need to win more to attract higher level free agents and keep Harden. However, the Rockets also need to retain flexibility to sign players in the future.

You also now have a GM who has job security issues and a 60 year old head coach that wants to win now and runs a different system.

There are going to be a number of possibilities in play. However, if you fail to sign a top 4-5 free agent, would you rather have Ariza ($8,000,000) and Motiejunas ($14,000,000) or Parsons ($22,000,000) and the asset you get from dealing Ariza?

    Motivations and circumstances have changed.

Like Malakas said, the Rockets will have to spend that $40,000,000 on someone and they will be lucky to get a player of Parsons ilk (assuming his knee checks out).

Never bring back a player, especially after injury. Lin might have had success under D'Antoni, that hair of his and how he did not impress in the play-offs I really hope we stay far away.

This would be awesome simply for the fact that it'd be hilarious in a horrible way.

My guess is that Lin doesn't want to come back, but Parsons might if he gets the
max from Houston. That would fulfill his ego. I am totally against offering either one of them a contract.

I would agree about Lin - Rockets picked him up, dropped him. Rockets picked him up again, traded him. Highly doubt he'd wanna go through all that a 3rd time.

Don't mind Parsons, but that dude is not a Max player. I'd cap him at $13-15/year.

We're about to witness a bunch of average players get paid stupid money and then have a tough time dragging those big contracts up and down the court. Can't wait...

Parsons is a definite "no". He went full d***wad on the Rockets organization. Granted, you can go back to a previous team if you're worth the money, but Parsons has a knee made of paper mache. A shame for him, but that's the truth of it.

Lin? I would hope to get a better fit at point guard. I didn't watch him much as a Laker or as a Hornet but I don't know how much he's improved, if at all. Does he still bounce the ball off his foot? Does he still dribble into the teeth of the defense, then in a panic toss the ball out for a turnover? Some might argue the D'Antoni - Lin connection but I don't think you can (or should) go home again.

Both guys would thrive under MDA's offense. I would not mind signing both honestly. The team might actually be enjoyable to watch unlike last season.

If the Rockets sign Parsons, I'm going to puke. If the Rockets sign Lin, I'm going to laugh till I puke.

I thought the Rockets drafted the new Parsons, Dekker, so they wouldn't have to pay the old Parsons? :p
