Also note that when Appel replaced Fisher in the Giles trade package, the Phillies also threw Jonathan Arauz into the deal. That kid's got a chance to be a top-10 prospect for us in a couple of years.
A little surprised Arauz and Sierra both got sent to Greeneville. I figured Sierra would have gotten sent to the GCL so they both could get consistent innings at SS.
Joan Mauricio is still in the GCL who also needs innings at SS, but probably isn't ready for Greenville.
In an ideal world, Sierra, Arauz, and Mauricio would get SS innings until they prove they can't play the position as it is a harder position to play and harder to predict which guys can play it at an MLB level in short seasons. It is much easier to convert a SS in AAA to 2B than the other way around.
Troy Sieber is currently 2-3 with a triple, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored in his pro debut. He was the Astros' 24th-round pick a couple of weeks ago.
Francis Martes is starting for Corpus Christi tonight in their 2nd-to-last game before the Texas League All-Star break.
I really like what Brady Rodgers brings to the table. Legit back end of the rotation option going forward.
Anyone seen Rogelio Armenteros? Stats suggest he may have found out way for a pitcher to survive in Lancaster...Strike out a third of the guys face, walk 10%, and pray other 60% don't do too much damage. Scouting reports say four seam (low 90s), two seam, a slow curve (mid 70s), and change up (high 70s).
I doubt it. If Gonzalez doesn't pass through waivers (who would claim him?), they'll probably just move Woodward back.
His season is really stunning to me. I'd prefer Musgrove if it came to it, but he's definitely put himself back on the prospect radar. Pretty big fall for him. He was added to the 40-man to protect him from the Rule 5 (as was Minaya), had a chance to win the backup job in ST, and now both are DFA'd only 2 months into the minor league season.
