Apparently they started on reddit a few months ago, friend of mine has emailed me a few I think this is the spot, but that site frightens and confuses me https://www.reddit.com/r/DonaldandHobbes/
Name one GOP candidate that middle of the road voters would support. One that could promote a viable position on abortion, immigration, gun control, campaign finance, foreign engagement, and a Supreme Court nominee. Well to late, you've got Trump.
you can't and that's why they blew up. if rebuptards focus on finding one likable moderate instead of fighting within they easily take it. now i'm sure they will lose.
Maybe, but if not for Trump, Cruz would be the nominee right now. I can't say with any confidence that Kasich would have been even 3rd choice. If you have to dig that deep past the unlikable characters, then I don't know if you can really call Trump an aberration.
The question was to name a candidate that the middle of the road voters would support. The problem was, there were no middle of the road voters in the Republican primaries. They were too busy raging against "the establishment" to see the big picture. Big picture meaning, I don't know, maybe nominating a candidate that can actually beat Hillary in November? Too late for that, though. Your'e welcome, Dems.
As much as I disagree with his views on certain things, Ted Cruz would have been their PERFECT candidate. He would have definitely held his own against Clinton, and probably out-debated her as this is his forte (and critical for elections- see 1960, 2012, 1980, etc.). Trump is probably going to do his stupid making-faces thing and botch the debates. Cruz would have been perfect- a Texas guy, a Cuban, well-spoken, known as an outsider in his party (which would appeal to that type of Trump supporter), had an outstanding ground game for his campaign (another 4 years and he will probably be the choice), extremely knowledgeable, etc. Yes, he's wacky, but he's smart enough that he would negate that during a presidential campaign. And although he says wacky things, they're not so wacky as to Trumpify himself.
Don't kid yourself. If Kasich was the nominee he would be instantly branded as a racist, sexist, crazy person who hates the poor. Just like John McCain and Romney were. Republicans know this. So they stopped trying to cater to liberals.
That's ridiculous. Both of those gentlemen and Kasich too were honorable and viable political candidates. If they weren't running against Obama, they could have had my vote. McCain, I think, would have been a good president. If Kasich had this nomination, he'd definitely have had my vote as I look about for an alternative to voting for Clinton. Romney especially caught flak in some leftist quarters for being too white and too rich. But swing voters weren't weighing their votes on whether either of those guys might actually be racists or sexists. That it is even a subject of debate for our current Republican nominee is an embarrassment for the nation. Kasich never gave us reason to think he was either. Trump giving us a reason to think so of him was the method he used to differentiate himself from the pack and get the nomination.

I suspect the issue here is you view independent as liberals. That's the voting block both party need to win the white house. If you have given up on that block, you are doom.
Sort of like Republicans call any Democrat a socialist appeaser of terrorists, right? The difference is that the left didn't just decide "f*** it, if they are going to call us names, we'll show them by nominating an actual crazy person!". That said, I don't think anyone called McCain racist, sexist, or crazy. Romney was called sexist for his "book full of women", but wasn't really ever called racist or crazy. But I guess it's nice to live in a bubble where you believe whatever you want to be true.
Gee, former Goldman Sachs guy likes the candidate who has accepted millions from Goldman Sachs. #wallstreetgonnawallstreet
