If Altuve can be anywhere near as good as Biggio was over his next 722 games it's gonna be extremely fun to watch unfold.

    .343/.425/.551

    38 walks/29 k's in 73 games

80 walk pace if he plays 154 games.

Dude is having an incredible year right now. Just amazing.

It looks he is on pace for a HOF career. The Astros have had joe morgan, biggio, and Altuve.

This year he looks mature at the plate, few bad swings.
He is talking more walks, and that changes him from an All Star to an MVP candidate.

His contract has to be the best value in baseball right now, right? The timing of how that worked out was just PERFECT for the Astros. They've got a genuine MVP candidate making like $7 million a year until, what, 2019?

It really is... On production/value alone, this could be Luhnow's greatest achievement, and it outweighs all potential mistakes 10-fold.

True. Though, only if he uses the excess money appropriately to build a better team. Otherwise, the winnings go to Crane :)

I would say a great value, but I'd still take the track record of Trout even though Trout makes more (even when he gets up to 33M a year, he'll probably be worth about 70-80M).

if you take the difference in salaries and assign it to a new player we can get because Altuve makes so much less, I can't imagine you'd still say that..

He certainly is. I've mentioned before that I think he could get there via 3K hits, but this year he is showing to be so much more than that (a serious MVP candidate).

That's pretty sick. Can't imagine any franchise can sport a better trio historically.

Thus far, Jose is having a "best season for a HOF" type season, and he's already had another one HOF level season in '14. Only 26-years-old and his defense has improved too. He's really doing the city proud and the team well.

Remember when several people on this message board wanted to trade Altuve and bring up Kemp as his replacement? All those people should never be allowed to complain about management again...

That's not a serious statement is it?

If he's talking about MLB 2B, off the top of my head he may be right.

What's wrong with his statement? If Altuve were to maintain his present pace and were to eventually make it to the HOF, this could be his "best" season.

For example, Biggio's best offensive season was 1997 when he had a 9+ WAR (1998 was pretty good as well with a 6+ WAR). Altuve would finish better in every category except for runs scored where he would be dominated. He'd also finish a few stolen bases behind.
