phil jackson doesn't care anymore. he's basically telling the knicks to fire him, 'cause they will need to pay him anyway. guaranteed contract.

Is Rose damaged goods, or can he still be useful he was pretty inconsistent last season and very inefficient at time
Agreed. It's a lose-lose situation with Rose. Lets say he has a contract year perfomance. Are you then trusting him enough to pay him what he's asking in a long term contract? And if he sucks again and you don't then you wasted last years 1st rounder and one of your few assets for nothing. And capspace? If Rose sucks again and the Knicks don't make the playoffs why would any star FA consider them? And with Rose and Melo in the same team Porzingis will get much fewer touches and usg%. I dont' even want to think how it will be if Dwight ends up there and he also demands touches. Porzingis could end up with 19% usg.
Rose has been damaged goods for years. He is just a bad salary at this stage of his career. Yes, he can be somewhat productive, so an upgrade at PG for the Knicks. Gives them the chance to chase a C in free agency with their caproom.
They aren't winning a ring with Melo, not even close. The east has become stronger, they might not even make the playoffs next year even of they did sign Noah and a couple more mediocre pieces. They should do exactly what you said, just rebuild even though Melo's on the team. It's not like he's stopping them from sucking, if he gets tired of it he can demand a trade, if he doesn't whatever, the future and integrity of the team comes first. Melo isn't Dirk, he isn't Wade, he isn't a lifer who brought a ring to the city, they shouldn't feel obligated to screw off a decade for him.
I hope they start Porzingis at the 5 and Melo at the 4. At least that would be entertaining on offense.
excellent trade. After the trade they still have a projected 35 mill in cap space to get a center. DAMN good trade considering lopez and the other pieces werent producing. They can get dwight, horford, noah or any other free agent they choose. Tempting for a star like Durant also
His salary is equal to the guys they traded him for. Basically no real changes were made and they still have a projected 35 mill in cap space. That team needs real coaching to get the best out of their players. Dwight or Horford will be at center also
So you don't think we have a chance with Durant but he should consider the Knicks cause he can play with Melo and Rose?
There's a Huge problem though. we know that but again that's just not something they will acknowledge for business or personal reasons
As Knicksy as a move as that was, I think that's a pretty solid trade for what they gave up. Calderon and Lopez are useless to a team that won't be good for a couple years, and Grant isn't going to be anything. Why not take a big name on a nonthreatening contract to sell some tickets and take a flier on what he has left?
1. If Rose gets back to even top third level PG status, makes the playoffs, then it was all worth it. 2. If Rose sucks as predicted then they just took a calculated risk for only a season
Who would've thought this would be Rose's market value a few years ago? The Knicks will be never be a contender w/ Melo as their best player. At least this puts some butts in the seats and keeps it interesting. I imagine there might be a personality conflict between the two of them though.
A bit of a head scratcher, but at least the Knicks don't seem to be giving anyone away who'd have been in their long term plans.
