I think he was talking to Bronn on the ship heading to Dorne last season. Bronn brought up Tyrion and Jamie said he'd kill him if he ever saw him again......
If Dany conquers Westeros, Tyrion's nieces and nephews definitely die. If he has any goodwill for his kin, he comes along so that he can convince Dany to spare some of their lives. Yeah, I don't see how the Iron Born are going to respect that. They are highly patriarchal and don't trust a woman to rule them. Now, here comes the first woman to rule as their queen, oh and by the way she struck a deal with the enemy to give up her people's whole way of life and the source of any wealth they have. Now, they must subsist by fishing and trying to grow crops on some god-forsaken rock in the middle of the ocean. I don't see that going over very well.
Nailed it. They truly think they are presenting her as saving the day even though it makes no logical sense when you look at what actually happened. They don't even realize it.
Dany is their enemy? Weren't they all cheering the idea of Euron joining forces with Dany? I don't think they'll be upset with Yarah for joining with Dany if they were planning to join with Dany anyway. Anyway if we know anything about the Iron Born in the show it's that they aren't great thinkers. Throw them a few crude jokes and they'll be yours.
Keep seeing these words. Just for the record the no-no synonyms were: No more: Reaving Roving Raiding Raping I had to turn on Closed Captions to make sure I heard that right. I never knew the Reavers on Firefly came from an actual word. It's a synonym for plunder and pillage.
Tyrion sucks, Dany saves the day Jon Snow sucks, Sansa saves the day Tommen sucks, Cersei will save the day Theon sucks, Yara had to save the day I'm sensing a theme here
One logical reason is both Jon and Sansa's desire to avoid a Siege. Forget for a second that there is no explanation how >2000 horses could travel to Winterfel without word getting to Ramsay, they needed to surprise Ramsay with them. Had Sansa told him, allowing Jon to wait a day for them to arrive, Jon would have hid them in arrears somewhere, so he can still have his meeting with entourages to piss off Ramsay and bait him to come fight in the open. But Jon STILL would have gone after Rickon forcing a charge vs drawing Ramsay closer. Maybe more survive, maybe not. If Vail shows themselves, Ramsay doesn't reign down arrows on his horsemen. BUT!!! From Sansa's perspective, she doesn't know anything about battle tactics, as she stated. But she knows three things: The size of each force, they do not want a siege, and Littlefinger is smart. So, maybe she just feels surprise for everyone is the safest thing to achieve the final goal.
Excellent point. I suppose Dany could make them a merchant ship dynasty for being the first fleet to help her...so, they get all the best shipping jobs in Westeros.
And they could make her naval fleet. I could see a military industrial complex taking form around Queen Dany.
Biggest tactical mistake was not arming that big ass giant ..wtf..imagine the devastation that dude could have caused with a log or piece of chain anything at all ..hell a hundred men could have been protected behind a giant sized shield, would have made a great weapon and dude wouldn't have looked like a poricupine at the end
Well, they are enemies of the crown of the Seven Kingdoms, in general. They were an independent kingdom (that raided the mainland) until they were forced at sword-point to swear fealty to the Seven Kingdoms. They still want to be independent. Now they were down with Euron, but his plan involves him marrying Danaeris thereby effectively becoming king over all of Westeros (which also would put a crimp in the raiding stuff, but as you say, they aren't great thinkers). That's a different proposition from Yara trading her support for Dany's reign in return for Dany's support for hers -- within a united Seven Kingdoms in which the Iron Born continue to be subordinate to King's Landing. I actually considered that. They may be in a good place to run goods up and down the west coast, but they aren't really in a great spot geographically being way over on one side of the known world. The only big ports they're close to are Lannisport and Oldtown. Looking at the map, Lys is in the best spot to make a merchant empire. They are smack in the middle of everything, with easy access to Oldtown, Sea of Dorne, King's Landing, Gulltown, and White Harbor on the Westeros side, and Tyrosh, Braavos, Volantis, and Slaver's Bay and New Ghis on the Essos side. Plus, an easy sail down to the Summer Islands and whatever is in Sothoryos, if anything. And there are points further east that might be a stretch for them, but even moreso for a merchant ship from the Iron Islands.
Lol, it's funny that it hadn't even occurred to me. Make him a big-ass sword or mace. Put him in a suit of armor. He'd be unstoppable.
All they needed to do was craft a shield out of cut down trees and have him use that. It's kind of silly that they didn't. Hannibal armored his elephants.
That would make sense, but then they would have to show she is rather dumb in military affairs rather than the hero
Which would be fine by me. They have a surfeit of highly capable women to the point of making it boring. The show and GRRM both suffer a degree of Red Sonja Syndrome. Not every female character has to be both hot and bad-ass. I like the Sansa character and her arc from naive girl to power player. But I don't see why she has to be a military mind to accomplish that.
It's partly a female empowerment show. I've come to terms with that and it doesn't annoy me as much as it used to.
True. I wonder if they are actually making Sansa evil and more like Ramsey than a stark. She was pretty cold about Rickons death and even Jon's possible death. And then letting Ramsey die that way isn't exactly the Stark way. Plus the whole "I'm inside you" quote
Who says a shipbuilder or merchant marine fleet has to operate out of their own port? Their job is to travel to all ports-of-call and rarely come home. You just the contracts and the ships, then you go to where the work is. Dany delivers them all the King's Landing work, all Meereen (and Slaver's Bay), Lannisport (once she kills all the Lannisters), and likely Tyrell's Oldtown. Further contracts with Braavos are just naturally won, since you are the #1 merchant fleet in Westeros. anyhoot: I love when we get to Wed and Thurs and start talking about fun, yet largely irrelevant stuff. Cool to talk about.
