I can't imagine the White Sox would. Chris Sale isn't getting traded with so many years remaining on an extremely team friendly deal. The White Sox have a good core of players signed for 3+ years. They'll look to trade Todd Frazier, Melky Cabrera, David Robertson, and some of their other relievers and mediocre veterans. But Marwin/Valbuena platoon is way more attractive at 3B than 1B. It would be nice to know what Reed/Bregman would offer if we called them up.
For Chris Sale, I would package Bregman, no doubt! Not is he only a dominant Ace, but he is a lefty that throws in the mid 90's consistently. Those are hard to find.
Listen... IF we were able to get the 32 YO Yulieski Gourriel to play third base it would make it easier to give up Bregman and Reed for Sale. With that being said, if we got Sale then we sure as hell better go out in the rest of trade deadline or offseason and sign a 3B or go out and get someone to fill that spot. We can't be having inconsistent production at that position. Before Bregman gets put in any deal, I would package Reed/Martes before I even thought of putting him in deal.
If they actually spent the money on Yulieski (doubtful of that), it would create flexibility to make other moves. The Whitesox would be dumb to trade Sale for two unproven prospects, no matter how highly they're ranked. Sale's contract might be the best trade chip in all of baseball.
If Bregman is included, they may want a top pitcher prospect also. David Paulino, would be my guess. Maybe throw in, Derek Fisher. 3 for 1 deal. But with Sale, you would have a great shot in winning the Championship. Now if I was the White Sox, I would want Bregman and little Tcker, but Astros would be dumb to do that kind of package deal lol.
Not so dumb. If we got Sale and were able to go out and get a third baseman who's productive (who knows... maybe Worth can work out). Our bullpen isn't bad.. and a starting rotation of... Sale Keuchel (2015 Version) McCullers Fister McHugh Is pretty dynamite and worthy of WS contender status.
Reed, Paulino, Fisher could get the deal done. It may backfire, but you can't blame Luhnow for it. Our infield of 1B, Altuve, Correa, Bregman, Castro or Gattis. OF: Rasmus, Gomez, Springer We could do damage and our farm system could replenish within those 3 years if and when Sale's contract is up.
Not even close. There's no way a deal for Chris Sale doesn't hurt A LOT. I'd start with a high up-side major leaguer and add on from there. If they started a deal at McCullers plus Paulino and Fisher or Feliz, Bregman and another blue-chip prospect then that'd be semi reasonable.
He's a freaking ace who's under 30 years old who's under a cheap contract for another 4 years. It's going to take a lot of unproven players with tremendous upside and/or proven players with upside.
That would be a high price, but McCullers plus Bregman/Reed would be a reasonable starting point. If I was the White Sox I'd probably need all 3 to even give it serious consideration. Yep. He's better, younger, and cheaper than Cole Hamels.
Isn't there concern about Sale's delivery/possible injuries down the road? I haven't watched him enough to say for sure, but it would make me a little hesitant on paying a huge price.
The White Sox don't have to deal him... if they do, its only to receive a serious influx of high upside talent. It would almost be sorta like asking fans what they would consider trading Jose Altuve for now... and he's on an even cheaper contract than Sale is.
Wasn't that the tagline to the Six Million Dollar Man? What would that guy cost given today's baseball salaries?
I think a Sale deal would look something like: Astros get: LHP Chris Sale White Sox get: RHP Lance McCullers, Jr. RHP Michael Feliz RHP Francis Martes OF Derek Fisher OF Preston Tucker And that still might not get it done. There's really no precedent for trading a player like Sale, a young ace with a cheap contract. And trading Sale probably means a full rebuild, which means trading Lawrie, Frazier, Shields, and probably everyone but Eaton, Anderson, and Rodon. I would be utterly shocked if Chicago traded Chris Sale.
I guess you didn't read the part where he said it still may not be enough. Don't think you can take out the one starter that has shown an ability to pitch at the big league level, put two more unknowns in, and make the deal somehow more enticing. Luhnow needs to use the same crystal ball he used for Jared Cosart and apply it to the future of LMJ as a starter. He's still very young/raw, but I do have concerns about his inconsistent mechanics and potential future injury risk.
