One year, there won't need to be any selective stat padding to try and make a case for a player. The great thing about baseball is that at the end of the year, you are what your numbers say you are... sure, every player has hot streaks and cold streaks throughout the season, and water usually finds it's level, and players almost always approach numbers suggestive of their career averages. Valbuena is just a guy... certainly could be upgraded upon short-term/long-term, but other than Bregman somehow coming up, adjusting to MLB pitching, and then thriving... there won't be any immediate upgrade options.
Sucks to say but I'm glad rasmus is getting platooned - if he wasn't making $16m he'd see the field a whole helluva lot less. Dudes been terrible for awhile now.
I do like Valbuena, the problem is we have a weak DH and besides Springer, the OF. That is 3 spots out of 9. That is why we are so good against the NL, as we don't have to play with the DH on the road. Gattis has become a good offensive catcher, but still a very weak DH.
Rasmus doesn't lock in until the playoffs. I wait to see how he does in October and then go from there.
Agree And to be fair there hasn't been a ton of problems over the past 6 weeks, we have the second best record in the AL over that time
Why would Hinch put Worth at 2B and Altuve at DH today and weaken the defense? I understand using the DH to give a guy a "break" sometimes But not when we had two days off this week and another coming on Thursday In the mide of long stretches of games then fine, right now isn't that time though I do like the batting lineup today though
Altuve has been hurting if I remember correctly. Probably could have used a day off. Have to keep the bat in there.
the same people who like valbuena are probably the same ones who would have loved it if we gave matt dominguez that rumored extension. valbuena dont have a long term future with us. i wont lose sleep when bregman and reed comes up to replace him.
The beauty of the DH spot is you can give a guy a quasi day off but not lose his bat in the lineup. Yes it could weaken the defense but players aren't really designed to play a full 162. Need to rest them to keep them fresh throughout the grind.
Jesus...just looked at the standings...Rangers pretty much have this division wrapped up, it seems like...44-25, were 11 GB, SEA is 7.5 GB....
Oh I get all of that, just saying with 3 days off in a week and a half seems a strange time to give your best player a break. Now if he is hurting and needed it then I fully understand
