    Interesting twist

Pretty sure they can't just install anyone, as that would be a revolution. To keep the realm intact, falling the High Sparrows words that the King and Church are one, don't they have to legitimize someone with a claim

And the best claim now after Tommen is ... wait for it

So the High Sparrow is Bernie Sanders, after all!

"We are all children of the Seven....and we cannot allow the top 1% to keep taking and giving nothing back. That...is an o-li-gaw-chy!"

Maybe that's where Gendry has been. Stashed away by the 7. Groomed/brainwashed to take over.

I'm pretty sure he's the first person to row West of Westeros.

    Agreed.

I think it'd be disappointing if High Sparrow revealed himself in the end to be just another power-hungry political player. But, backing a king who would uphold the faith would make sense. So long as Tommen is that guy, I should think High Sparrow would be content.

Another possibility -- King Lancel. After his father meets with an untimely death.

This. The faith become big again because of the War of the 5 Kings where the countryside was ravaged because of nobles competing for power.

He is a blacksmith so maybe it is representing the people taking over. Also the blacksmith is one of the seven. It would be fitting. But who can prove he is blood of the beratheon. Maybe they will appoint a figure head and the church will run it like the Holy Roman Empire.

    Your note needs a response.

Ok just to be clear, no, religion in and of itself is not bad, never has been. It is what men do with it and in its name which engenders corruption and evil. (At least religions which do not specifically instruct its followers to harm others)

And as presented in this show.. oh my goodness, it's horrific. And I find it really strange that so many people don't seem to even bat an eye.

Let's look at this good fellow the High Sparrow for a brief moment...

First, he is the head of an organization which essentially kidnaps people, starves them, withholds water and even the most basic comfort. All the while, brainwashing, and demanding confessions of guilt - IN ORDER FOR THE TORTURE TO END. This is torture. And people are ok with it??

Understand, no sane person would accept a confession under such duress/torture as legitimate.

Second, he smilingly approves of his followers committing acts violence in his religion's name. He essentially has his own army, and and makes sure he is constantly shadowed by a lurking cadre of soldiers, in order to make sure that no one stands up to him (as when he was confronted by Jaimie in the Sept).

Third, he usurps the law of the land, or places himself above it, and attempts to subvert and manipulate the leaders into changing laws to suit his own ends.

Fourth, he has made it clear that he and all of his followers are essentially suicide soldiers, all willing and happy to die 'for the cause'.

The list can easily go on, but the point is, this 'religion' has more in common with modern-day suicide/murder ideology, and more in common with what we know as 'cults', than any legitimate religion.

It's pretty clear GRRM feels the same about them, which is why they are written to evoke such a revulsion.

He is a cult leader; he is a gang leader; he is a willful usurper of established authority. He is certainly no man of peace, no man of God. And he sure as heck can't be trusted.

So no, no citizenry would ultimately be better off under such a tyrannical and corrupt rule. It was that very corrupt tyranny which prompted people to leave and head to the New World in the first place.

It's easy when you apply a modern lens to say this is bad but the people then don't see it that way. And I'm definitely not going to argue they are better off somehow or they are good people by our standards.

I think it would have played better as one continuous scene ..waif should have just tracked her to the dead end room, following the blood trail..We didn't need a scene showing how she survived, maybe just not stab her in the gut so many times and could have had medical help on the trip back to westeros..pretty common to have some kind of doc onboard a ship

Kinda feel that the past few episodes have been underwhelming and the season is losing its grip on blending all the storylines together. Next week is supposed to be the big battle to take back Winterfell but I feel the build up has been lacking. Ramsay has been MIA for awhile now while Jon seems a bit reluctant to even want to fight and has failed to gather a suitable army (what happened to the North remembers?) Bran is nowhere to be found after being rescued by Benjen and that Tower of Joy scene is still but a tease. And Dorne...a wasted story becomes absolutely non-existent. I guess Euron is building his ships or something. Sam and Gilly pop in and out like unwelcome neighbors (and I actually like their characters). But good, we get more awkward scenes between Tyrion, Greyworm and Missandei. It certainly started off strong with so many high points, but has regressed a little since Hodor.

A lot of these threads were spun by GRRM years ago. Cant expect a show with limited budget to juggle all plotlines effortlessly.

Quality is lower but theres 2 more episodes to right this ship.

Lol, that's never been the appeal of the show. It's been the intrigue, the characters, the dialogue, the logical development based on different interests and motives. Not simple black and white or boring themes about religion.

It's not as good without GRRM's source material, unless you just liked it for dragons, t***, and c0cks in the first place, which it seems like some did.

I don't blame the writers of the show like many are doing though. You can't expect them to be able to write like GRRM when he's created this world over many years.

People are ging GRRM to much credit. He is also having trouble with finishing the story.
    FfC took 5 years
    DwD took 6 years
and WoW is already taking 6 years.
He took to much story lines and he also cannot bring it all together. Also the quality of the Books was also getting much worse.

That being said I am also dissapointed in the arya story line. But I am not convinced GRRM would do better.

The show desperately misses Tywin Lannister.

I really don't have a problem with the Arya storyline overall, but they have handled details extremely poorly.

Having her walk around like a dumbass when she should have known a guild of faceless assassins was after her. And then having her get stabbed in the gut, and shaking it off like nothing. Her beating the waif in the pitch black was perfectly believable to me, but her running through town and beating her with a major wound was poor writing.

And I agree people are giving GRRM far too much credit. Since the original trilogy, his writing has been extremely aimless and boring. he has no clue where he's going himself, or else these books wouldn't be taking so long.
