The incident was planned and announced days in advance, they even said it will happen in the 85th minute and from that specific spot in the stands. French police was notified of this, and they proved their incompetence yet again.
St. Ettiene fans and Torcida, the oldest supporters group in Europe and fans of Hajduk Split, the main rival of Dinamo Zagreb, are on good terms and they coordinated this attack together. They want to see the national team disqualified from the Euro, because it has become a private party of one man, as seen on the picture below.

I don't see why it is effective for the team to be punished for crazy fans that may or may not even be supporters of that team. That's illogical to me. Paying in front of an empty stadium is somewhat reasonable and fair if needed, but taking away points or disqualification doesn't make a difference.

I like some of the painted 3D effects they are using for the national logos.

Yeah, you already told us about the situation. This is idiocy on a very high level. What's the point of getting your team disqualified? That's not how you overturn a tyrant, because now he can easily blame those fans - like croatian media does. Croatia is already under supervision after that swastika on the gras.

Also it's invidious to the team and the players, who just want to make their people smile and get a kick in the nuts instead. This is very well your best team since 1996/1998.

Should've been a penalty for Ireland imo, instead a no-call and 1:0 for Belgium on the counter-attack.

I have to wonder if that hand ball could be intentional, it didn't look natural to go for a header that way, leading with a hand and not your head..

Penalty decision was wrong, but I'm still happy for Iceland. They are indeed on the way to the next round.

    Iceland on the go!

First thing, that goalie looks like the Michelin man out there, and he's gotta be like 50 years old.

Second thing, are there any stats on goalies guessing vs. waiting for contact on penalty kicks?

Massive blow for Iceland. But this group should be interesting, Portugal needs to show up now like Belgium did.

Vida reacted too late to the cross, so when he jumped, he tried to use his hands to bring down the opposing player and get to the ball first, and failed miserably. I've actually seen similar penalties happen before, it was not intentional, just an example of a mental lapse and bad defending.

This is a long comment, I'll put it under spoiler to not derail the thread. :)

Raz, I like you and I don't want to sound rude, and actually this is a compliment, but yeah, you don't know almost anything about what is going on around here, you live in an organized society. I do not support these hooligans, I wouldn't light those flares and throw them on the pitch (at least not when we were winning lol), but I understand why they did it. Fans, people, every single honest person has been trying to get rid of Mamić for years now through legal channels and it isn't working. He regularly has lunch with the president, with judges of the supreme court and oversees everything. Even our minister of police said today that hooliganism in the football federation = hooliganism in the stands. Nobody can do anything to stop these criminals and the people are sick of it and desperate to make a change, doing whatever it takes.
Our national team players had their chance to put an end to this tyranny, Srna had a private meeting with the fans a year ago, where they asked him to lead a rebellion of the players against the federation, and he declined to do it. He said no probably because Modrić would have to go to jail then. Modrić is a pretty dumb guy, he testified on the court that Mamić made him take part in tax fraud. As I said before, Lovren did the same, but he also threw Mamić under the bus, so he's not with the team.
Five years ago, Igor Štimac won the elections for the president of the Croatian Football Federation, but they overruled the elections on some made-up rule. Štimac is a human garbage too, but he still won. Two years ago, former national team players Dario Šimić, Igor Bišćan, Tomislav Šokota and Silvio Marić all led an initiative to give Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian football back to the fans (all of the Dinamo fans have abandoned the team because they know that it has become a joke, so Dinamo usually plays in front of 500 fans, instead of 10000 like they used to), nothing happened. Even Zvonimir Boban demanded the resignation of Zdravko Mamić, his right hand man Damir Vrbanović and the despicable human being that is named Davor Šuker, and they obviously declined. Now, Boban is one of the closest assistants of Gianni Infantino, which is a big slap to the face of Mamić and Šuker, who supported Platini and Blatter, and we all hope Boban can do something from his position to light these guys' asses on fire.

All in all, this incident is just an overflow from the mess that our whole country is in. Our president and the government are members of the Croatian Democratic Party, the biggest and strongest political party in Croatia, also the most corrupt one. They won the elections by talking up their patriotism, evoking memories of the war from 20 years ago and spreading fear amongst the common people by saying their opponents are communists trying to bring back Yugoslavia. It's no coincidence that Zdravko Mamić is one of their supporters and their top donator.
But the tide is changing. The head of the Croatian Democratic Party has been accused of corruption and treason (MOL, the Hungarian oil company, has been paying him and his wife for the last 10 years, while all the time he was saying he's a patriot lol). After only 7 months, the government has been overthrown after the largest protests in Croatian history. The people are sick and tired of these fools running the state and they smell blood. The hooligans identified the right time for this attack and they succeded in doing it. And you know what was the reaction by the president, the technical government and Mamić? They said it was done by the communists, Yugoslavian secret services and our "one hundred year-old“ enemies. What a bunch of idiots.

Ronaldo missing the penalty haha, love it. Would be too glorious if Portugal were eliminated and Iceland advance.
