Its fallen off from what it used to be. Honestly I think we may be starting to see the reason it has taken GRRM so long to finish. He's got about 1000 cords to untangle.
Tyrion is the mouthpiece for GRRM...you can see it in how badly Tyrion's dialogue has suffered without any source material feeding his snark. They basically had to hide him for two episodes and rehash scottish jokes, because he doesn't offer much if he can't be portrayed as the smartest guy in the room.
Personally this has been my favorite season thus far but to each their own. I suppose it's inevitable that people turn on things and start saying it's not as good as it used to be.....
His problem is that he rather add more cords than ramp down the arcs. The quality will take a predictable turn in order to resolve this unless random characters reappear from nowhere, which some will still complain as bad writing
Final episode of the season: Bran wakes up from a nightmare. He dreamed that he caught two Lannisters doing it and was thrown out the window. Then all sorts of crazy, weird **** followed. That would be an easy way to untangle this mess.
Yep, it happens with EVERYTHING now as it draws to a close. Everyone loves the creator, then they all turn on him/her as it begins to conclude. George Lucas? Genius, we love him. KILL HIM. Even in short windows the same phenomenon happens. People were in love with True Detective 1 then complained about the ending (not me). With that said... the writing just feels like it's down a notch, at times there's a cheesy unpolished feel that didn't used to be there and the slow burn payoffs seem neutered.
i won't be surprised at all. everyone will be demanding for George to do a walk of atonement ( not naked pls).
Look, I'm not saying the show is bad, but it's impossible to ignore that that there is a serious change in the quality of the dialogue and the logic of the events. The writers are ready to wrap things up and have tossed logic to the wind. Even the pacing has changed. In the first several seasons they tried hard to respect things like distance for travel. In the most recent Jon Snow episode he traversed the entire North in one episode lol. I'm not saying it's worse because they do that, it's just reflective of the change. Things are happening faster with much less attention to detail, logic and depth of character. An example is the whole Blackfish being an idol of Jamie thing. If you are just a show watcher that isn't getting fed that information from this board or watching interviews with producers, you have no way to know that. The moral ambiguity of the show has basically been written out as well. We might as well have black and white hats on all of the characters now. Similar to how another poster commented on how they like to (not so) subtly remind us where the scene is taking place with the dialogue, they also like to remind of that bad guys are bad and good guys are good now constantly.
my goodness, very well said. that's exactly what I struck me, espcially the pacing. bravo. i hope these last 2 episodes will give us something to get excited about again.. hopefully Jon Snow doesn't get killed again.
I want to be clear that I am enjoying the season as well. Not being the same doesn't mean it isn't good. It is not as good as past seasons but it still outshines most things on tv, still holds my interest, still entertains me, still makes me wanting the next episode, etc.
I'm closer to that as well but jesus reading through some of these comments makes it sound like we watching some low rent Walking Dead spin off......
