CNN is reporting kid was in the water - not deep enough to swim.

No I think they are handing out a blank check no matter what. As bigtexxx pointed out, there is a feeling of safety staying at a Disney resort. Everything is taken care of for you. While they have had accidents and as freakish as this one was (and as pointless as a gator sign would be) they will be paying.

I mean the far bigger danger is the child drowning. Not something this horrific.

As I understand it, the signs just said to not swim in the man-made lakes. And he wasn't; he was sitting in a very shallow part of the water about a foot from the shore.

I have vacationed in places - as an adult and a kid - with alligators before (formerly Chain-O-Lakes) and know all about being cautious around them, but it's possible I would have not seen that scenario as one to be overly worried about.

It's just a terrible situation. I wouldn't rush to blame anyone.

One thing I will not do is walk along any shoreline in Florida unless it is at the beach. Just too many of these stories. You don't know which bodies of water have them and which ones don't. It's just a gamble. Forget about swimming in them.

Ive been following this the whole night hoping they would find the child. Its a man made Lake that has alot of canals attached to it which make it tricky to catch it

I was planning on going to the Guadalupe river tubing and they shot and killed a 14 foot gator.

I live in GA, and visit Orlando regularly where my Father in law lives, and I wouldn't assume there were gators at a Disney resort. I would assume Disney would try to keep Gators out. If they know there are gators, they should have signs.

When I think Florida I think hmmmm, Gator in a swimming pool.

They've already killed 4 Gators looking for a body.

Same. Man made or not. I wouldn't hang around a body of water in Florida especially at night.

He was in ankle deep water, which for a 2yr old can't be more than 3 inches. The dad was only a few feet way saw it happen. It was so sudden that even though he rushed into the water to help..it was too late.

As a parent, I can't even imagine what this must be like for him.

It's connected to canals where the gators creep from.

Regardless, if I'm in Florida pretty much any patch of water not call the Gulf or Atlantic Ocean, I'm worried about Gators.
