Guns do not kill people, right?

    That's an insanely high number.

You really should get that gun control sorted in the USA.

That's just a random weekend in a highly corrupt city with some of the strongest gun control laws in America. The politics of Rahm Emanuel lead to that sort of thing.

Yes, gun control in Chicago is going to have major affect when you can just travel for 30 min to Indiana to get your gun. It probably help a little, but not enough to make much of a difference.

Chicago did ban handguns. It was a ****ing disaster.

But it did make a difference. The Chicago handgun ban caused murder rates to go up bucking a long declining trend and going against the national trend. In other words, despite the proximity to Indiana, the handgun law had a terrible negative outcome. Same thing with DC gun ban.

It's not like the violence is all over the city. It is largely confined to certain areas.

This. Some of the strongest gun laws anywhere, but it hasn't helped.

The problem is that there are 300,000,000+ guns in the US. They aren't going anywhere - zero chance there is a full scale confiscation effort that succeeds.

A national gun excise tax would be an incredible revenue generator.

All fiscal conservatives should give it serious consideration.

Would you agree that it should not have gotten to that point?

A national p***y tax is nothing that you'd ever have to worry about, friend.

The discussion here is about firearms - please stay on point.

I am sure all those gangsters and criminals in Chicago will obey the law and pay the tax they due: sir, here is the tax for the two guns I purchased from black market. I am a gangster but I want to be a good citizen too!

My point is that it's unhelpful to suggest a gun ban when it's not a feasible solution, since the guns aren't going anywhere.

We would be better off by keeping guns out of crazies' hands? yes. Most gun owners don't present a problem - but we have to find a way to solve terrorist attacks, and I think the answer is much broader than the simple, "take away guns!". It's a combination of intelligence sharing, profiling, increased security, etc.

Prohibition has proved time and time again that it simply doesn't work in America, it wouldn't work with guns either....even if you could do so without ripping up the constitution. It's just a foolish idea that keeps popping back up.

A national poll tax would also be a incredible revenue generator, I mean if you are going to do it to one constitutionally protected right, why not do so for all of them?

I mean, that's the liberal way right? Tax people heavily and take away civil rights in order to empower the federal government? You guys would love it.

Someone needs to Chicago to organize the community against this kind of violence.

If you remove 99.9% of the guns in circulation, it would work, but it would not happen in our lifetime.
