Florida Night Club Shooting - at least 20 dead - impact on US elections?

Please don't tell us you are trying to pass those guys off as muslim. They don't even have the hats.

 

Fair enough, SWAT teams and such use carbines for up close engagement all the time.

I don't know that a ban on assault rifles would necessarily end this type of stuff from happening, or even if that's what you're arguing. But if banning them really does make this country safer, then in for it.

Of course - he's lectured us many times on it. Don't ask him to do anything more than that, he either can't or won't do it if it involves putting in the hard work to reach across the aisle.

 

And if you'd ever listened to any of those speeches, you'd understand he doesn't want to take our guns away.

You know he can't do anything about it. It's not about reaching across an aisle. The NRA owns enough politicians on both sides to keep any kind of change from happening.

Will be interesting to see if the new organization of Petraeus can get anything meaningful done. Kind of hard to label him a wimpy liberal pacifist gun taker.

 

It's a complicated discussion to be sure. What's not complicated is that these mass killers were complete novices. If anyone with experience decided to do something like this it would be far more ugly than we've seen so far. It is easy now to add a slide fire stock to an AR15 and essentially make it an automatic weapon. All perfectly legal.

If the average person understood the kind of firepower that anyone can buy they would freak the hell out.

 

And that's just the thing, it doesn't. "Assault weapons" is just the boogieman that is always attacked mostly because the name scares people. Handguns are the main weapon of choice for murderers but they are almost never the target of prohibitionists because they know no one will go along with it. Maybe they should pick a different scarier sounding name for them so that people will think they are tanks.

 

So this can be classified as a hate crime like Clay Aiken said?
