"The Orlando nightclub shooter called 911 around the time of the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston bombers, according to a U.S. official."

Well, then, there it is. Crack down on those ****ers. If that means having to give up certain liberties for a while, then do it. Sick of all this ****. I absolutely hate to say this, but things like this make me almost want to abandon liberalism for a while and say **** em. Ah, what a ****ed up day.

The first order of business today is to grieve for those who lost their lives this morning and to offer assistance to the wounded who need help. What a terrible tragedy.

In terms of policy responses, I have several recommendations:
    1. Increased online vigilance against ISIS and radical Islamic terrorist related communications. In several, if not all, of the mass shootings that we've seen, there has been some type of cyber trail and we need to learn from.
    2. Forget about people's feelings. Profile. It's obvious that the greatest risk to carry out a terrorist attach such as this morning is young Muslims. Yes there are isolated examples where the shooter was not a young Muslim, but odds are, this is the most likely group to commit these atrocities. Watch these people very closely. Look for trends to serve as an early warning system.
    3. Carefully monitor the immigration into this country -- be it legal or illegal -- to ensure that we are not taking undue risk as our population changes.
    4. Destroy all traces of ISIS in the Middle East. Utterly destroy them and apologize to no one.
    5. Work with Muslim groups domestically and globally to eliminate the hateful imams and leaders to try to get the radical portion of the religious group under control.

Gun control would only work if there were not hundreds of millions of guns already in people's hands. Confiscating guns would lead to civil unrest and armed conflict with the law on a level which we have never seen. That's just not a practical response.

one motive of terrorism is to cause the government to crack down on citizens and breakdown the public trust

Yet it did not in Australia or England when they were confiscated.

there's a Constitution for a reason, broken only when certain minority groups warrant increased scrutiny, to the detriment of the nation that was made exceptional by it.

It was the Japanese in WW2, and I wonder who will be next.

Is this a greater threat than climate change? Hardly the time to discuss it, but then you have to realize, that according to our president, this pales in comparison to climate change.

It will become a greater threat if people try to undo the Constitution over this attack.

Something Trumpkins seem not too averse to doing.

The "locks" that other countries have are effective, a few incidents aside. Maybe think critically for once in your life.

It certainly didn't help in France when there was a terrorist attack there....I mean, isn't that what we're talking about wanting to eliminate?

It really is funny that simpletons like yourself seem to always knee jerk to prohibition being the solution for any given problem despite the fact that it's proven to be ineffective in America. The culture is simply different here, if you don't like it, by all means, leave.

This is why religious leaders should be arrested for incitement.

People should be free to say what they want.

It would be great if people would just stop listening to them.

Yep, though there is a lot more room there to create policy that is balanced with the 2nd Amendment than the 4th and 5th which are routinely violated in the name of the existing War on Terror.

People aren't free to tell their religious followers that God will reward them for killing people.
