I've really enjoyed Kaplan's coverage of the Stros so far, but his twitter headshot looks like he went heavy with the blush and mascara.

Last year i said Valbuena was better vs righties, but he was not awful vs lefties. Well, this year he is proving that given a chance, he can help against lefties, especially when you consider his defense how important he is.
Last year, Valbuena was awful against left handed pitching. In around 130 plate appearances he hit .158, OBP of .265 and slugging percentage of .316. What would you consider 'awful'?
this year he is not doing awful, and his career numbers are not awful. Sorry, check the numbers and you will see. Career number he has a .212 average vs .230 vs righties, and 12 homers in 448 at bats. I would not mind using Valbuena vs lefties who are not dominating pitchers vs lefties. I would not hit him vs a loogy who struggles vs righties, but kills lefties, but the pitchers that are left handed and don't dominate lefties, i don't mind Valbuena in the lineup. And just in case, Matt Moore, career numbers vs righties are .250 average and lefties? .250. I think Valbuena will have a good game today.
You wrote "LAST YEAR HE WAS NOT AWFUL AGAINST LEFT HANDERS" - did you not? That is what I responded to, nothing else. His numbers indicate he WAS AWFUL against left handers LAST YEAR, contrary to what you wrote.
You wrote "LAST YEAR HE WAS NOT AWFUL AGAINST LEFT HANDERS" - did you not? That is what I responded to, nothing else. His numbers indicate he WAS AWFUL against left handers LAST YEAR contrary to what you wrote. EDIT - 2013-2015 this is his slash line against left handed pitching: .189/.286/.311/.597
He was awful the previous year too. But he was good against lefties in 2008-2010, so he's pretty good against them now.
Would have loved to see Kemp yesterday, but vs LHP Springer, Jake and Gomez should be the OF as they are today. Sucks that we have no healthy RH hitters on the bench and Castro has to face the lefty
Players are not what their numbers say they are Players are what Castrated-Jero says they are Now, Valbuena has always sucked vs LHP, but the question is if Delgado was the manager, could Valbuena hit .330 vs LHP, or .350
wow great discipline by astros batters that inning. working moore's pitch count. this is exactly the approach we need to have when our bats are struggling instead of swinging for the fences
