As soon as anything positive for the Rockets that might take place cue Stein to pi$$ all over it. This guy is a mouth piece for the Mavs and anything negative to be said about the Rockets.

Exactly. He succeeded in what he set out to do, put the narrative out there.

I'd love something posted from Codman or Cyber as to why Stein believes this to be the case. No one knows what KD is doing except his inner circle. I believe James is part of his inner circle. His inner circle is notoriously quiet. Maybe KD told James no way. That is the only type of information I could see warranting a story. Maybe Stein is just posting what rival GMs said. Maybe Stein is putting more negativity out from Cuban. This dampers my expectations considerably, but I don't think it's 0%, i'm feeling like a .5% chance he comes here.

Remember rumors like this hurt ticket sales, just like rumors stating that a marquee free agent is considering your team help ticket sales. There are extreme consequences for things like this leaking out. The common person will read this and conclude that Durant is definitively out.

Stein has had a pretty good feel for the Rockets plans this off season. He was the first to really ride that MDA train. He was the one who had the information on the assistants. He is a legitimate writer, I just don't know who his sources are because VERY FEW people have any idea what KD is going to do.

I think it's possible to believe Stein and at the same time know he might be wrong. Look, Stein has his sources and they are saying Durant doesn't want to come here. I don't know if there is spin going on or anything of the sort, all I know is that's what Stein thinks is going on. Morey has different people to his ear than Stein does to his, Morey might have indications that a play for Durant is the right one. As we saw last season with Deandre Jordan anything is possible, so to close the book outright on this would be dumb. However, to completely bank on Durant coming here would be equally dumb as well. Anyone who thinks Morey doesn't have more going on, or more irons in the fire needs to listen to his podcast on the Vertical.

Why don't we have as good of a chance as anyone except OKC? SAS and GSW will still need to clear a lot of players to sign Durant. Does Durant want to have it hanging over his head that he had to go to the top teams in the league in order to win?

Eh, I'll believe it when Cyber says it... Until then, this could just easily be Stein getting manipulated.

Just sayin....we didn't even interview Van Gundy.

My point being he may have heard KD wasn't interested in Houston but that doesn't make that information correct.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">With Tom Thibodeau nearing final agreement on a Minnesota deal, Jeff Van Gundy remains Houston's top co-candidate alongside Scotty Brooks.</p>&mdash; Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/722840649196646401">April 20, 2016</a></blockquote>

Yeah, also, in these past months ESPN (between Stein and others) wrote various articles about Durant's future, they always mentioned scrubby teams/organizations like Lakers, Knicks, Wizards as possible destination, never the Rockets...first time they name the Rockets is to say "no chance for them"...

Have it ever occurred to any of yall that Durant doesn't want all the rumors circulating so he will say he had no interest in joining the rockets the same thing he said about playing back in his home town think about it why wouldn't he at least consider playing with harden his friend the rockets had a bad season OK hell they were a good team previous years just had a bad season last year so why not and where else will he choose sas not Durants style and he won't jump ship to join the warriors so I think it's Houston, okc, and maimi

    My question is this.

If the rockets get a sit down meeting with KD does that make Steins sources wrong? If he had no intent on coming here why would he waste his time with a meeting?

Nobody knows we're KD is going im not buying Marc Steins sources or anyone for that matter because KD is super secretive and nothing has gotten out about his FA but yet the first bomb to drop is negative about the rockets? I think we've heard ESPN spit fire at us all year.

That looks like he just tweeted what everyone was assuming at the time. Which tells me his sources (if he even actually had sources) were spewing complete BS.

In reality, it turns out that Van Gundy wasn't even contacted at all and Scotty Brooks wasn't really on the radar much either.

We don't have a winning organization - he is not coming here - but folks can day dream if they like, I guess.

I don't think we will ever know the full story behind the coaching search. My speculation is the list of candidates Morey had in no way shape or form mirrored the list that Les had. My thinking is that Stein's source(s) was closer to Morey on that one. Morey wanted JVG, they play tennis together for God's sake. I think Les had a different view. Ultimately Les got his guy... but it goes to show Stein might not have incorrect information, rather incomplete information. Remember when everyone said Dwight's camp was telling the Rockets to back off? That Dwight's friends said there is no way in hell Dwight would be a Rocket? I don't think that info was incorrect, rather, it didn't come straight from Dwight. So at best it was incomplete information. That's all these guys got. It's like saying I'm picturing a shape with four sides, what is it? Some might say rectangle, some might say square, and some might say a triangle. Avoid the guys who say triangle, listen to the guys that say rectangle, and take the guys who say square with a grain of salt.

Where did Stein get his intel because I know he's not even in the outer circle of KDs inner circle. Another sauce of a sauce? #nocredibility.
